Puppy Monks

I really just want lightforged and goblin monks. And some red boxing gloves as transmog options for my new goblin monk to be more like a boxer.

Foxes are drastically different than dogs…

This for so many reasons. It’s literally just the hand to hand class which worgen is one of the most natural races that would have that because of claws and strength. There are only 3 holdouts for monk I believe which puts it on the same level as rogue priest and mage and almost makes it embarrassing to have holdouts at all. Exiles reach fixed all the original lore reasons to not allow monks on the holdout races. Finally because of the dk unlock every race including all the allied races have all received a new class at some point in time except for to my knowledge Worgen and goblin who have never gotten something new since they were added to the game.

My speculation is that there will be new starting experiences in the same vein as the Allied Race Death Knights created specifically for certain race/class combos that require a lore background.

I think Worgen Monks, Goblin Monks, and Lightforged Draenei Monks are currently not planned to be opened up for 10.0 because they are still unwilling to add those options to their current starting zones and they don’t want to have race/class combos that are restricted to starting in Exile’s Reach. Worgen and Goblins are also missing some animations for Monk, though I don’t know how much time it would really take to add the animations.

So it’ll probably be something along the lines of the classic class options for Worgen and Goblins would retain the Cataclysm era starting zones, but Worgen and Goblin Monks and other classes new to them would get a different starting zone.

There is precedence in expecting new starting experiences for certain new race/class combos considering that they have been discussing the possibility of new class options for Dracthyr, which would obviously require a different starting experience than the Evoker class.

My big issue with the lack of Lightforged monks is that they don’t have a lot of NPCs to begin with…

But two of the ones they do have (T’Paartos and Blademaster Telamon, past tense on the latter) are pretty strongly monk coded, if not actually monks.

if Worgens get to be Monks i demand the Goblins have Monks too.
why is it that Worgens and Goblins are the only race that can’t have Monks??? like come on…

There is the possibility of Lightforged Draenei getting Monks in 10.0, as Holinka didn’t get into specifics beyond Priests, Mages, and Rogues being added to all races. It’s not confirmed either, though. LFD Monks would be pretty easy to add compared with Worgen and Goblin Monks.

It mainly is when one gets requested, it is a request for all three races that don’t have access to them; Worgen, Goblin and Lightforged. Just that the OP will start with their favorite race and the rest follow up adding onto the OP Request with their input and ideas.

Mainly, it is no longer assumption are they going to, but the waiting game, “How long till all three will actually get access in game?”
It’ll probably be all three at once. With the addition to Exile’s Reach being added as an alternative starting allows for possible easier implications if they get stumped on the Cata starting zones, and simply have Monk class for these three only locked to Exile’s Reach - similar to how DK is locked to theirs; outside of boosts obviously.

Biggest issue I see is Worgen being the only race that doesn’t hold all the animations for monk, as of yet iirc - but they could have fixed that issue awhile ago without us knowing. Vulpera share same skeleton and animation as Goblins which means they (Goblins) have everything needed, same with LFD and Draenei sharing the same with themselves.

So ultimately, we just have to wait and see when. Hopefully sooner versus later.

I mean, they’re related, but different.

Just like dolphins and whales are related but different.

What am I, chopped liver?

Worgen or Monks? And why either way?

So they made tauren/draenei rogues but can’t give worgens monks?

Worgen monk is the only thing that’ll make me switch over to Alliance, not even kidding.

Worgen would look so goofy as monks, I’d have to pass.

I mean part of that reasoning is flawed. Them adding tauren rogue for instance is just as much work as worgen or goblin monk because you still have to add something to the starting zone a tauren rogue trainer as opposed to plopping a pandaren monk in gilneas.

The difference between adding new trainer NPCs to Mulgore vs adding new trainer NPCs to instanced Gilneas is that the Worgen starting zone is heavily phased, meaning that they would have to make sure that the new NPCs appear correctly throughout the entire questline.

The Tauren starting zone uses little, if any, phasing at all, so they can literally just drop in the new NPCs and not worry about a quest making them unavailable.

It could be doable to add new trainer NPCs to the Worgen and Goblin starting zones, I just doubt it’s anywhere near as simple as adding new trainer NPCs to a starting zone that isn’t as heavily phased and dynamic.
