They come from a flower and thus are indeed fruit. So are tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers. They’re classified as vegetables (since 1893) for import/export tax reasons. Fruits are not taxed, vegetables are. So, that’s fun.

Vegetables are not real. They’re just an agricultural marketing term. Most plants are berries or nuts or tubers or leaves.

Broccoli & cauliflower disagree, they are the pre-blossom state of flower buds.

As far as I understand it, yes. Internationally they are still taxed and sometimes between states as well.
