I’ve always felt the same.
This game is challenging enough on its own and there are plenty of obstacles in the way of any given player being great in multiple areas. Arbitrarily prohibiting people from excelling seems completely backwards, especially in a game.

That’s because it is. Theres nothing rewarding about trying out new content with an objectively worse ability for that form of content than someone else of your class/spec.

It augments your character through external means. Like how the old profession buffs used to be before, well, the balance criers killed it.
Yeah, it augments your character, much like a buff would. I guess we’ve just gotta disagree on this one. I can’t see any logical path that runs from buff --> borrowed power system.
