There are even a lot of casuals that don’t like being basically locked in . Casuals that do different types of content on a single toon . Casuals that like to push themselves.
Just because a person is a casual and may do low end content doesn’t mean they don’t want to be the best they can .
There is a simple solution just untie the covenant class abilities from the covenants and make them talents . Then make the soul binds from the covenant the player picks work with all of the class abilities .
It will still be a meaningful choice and not only that with the soul binds being able to work with all of the class abilities it actually opens up more builds then being limited to only one ability to use with the soul binds.
Yep, but why not just unlock all abilities for each class then because it could optimize your class even further. Why not switch to a class-less system and have it pure skill based. You get to build your own class.
My point is those are tied to those covenants because it represents them. Its not just a skill tree. Its part of their lore. Just as much as a skill to a class is.
CLasses are a permanent thing . Once you roll the toon it stays that class.
Covenants are temporary and will be gone once the 10.0 prepatch comes .
So your comparison fall under apples and oranges

It’s like that person at the corporate level that adds a couple extra steps to a job you already do and goes it will make the job a lot easier

At this point they should just set see whatever meta sets in Beta then delete every other ability in the game. You guys want to play 3rd Person PvE Overwatch anyway. Might as well go all out.
Dude that guy is EVERYWHERE. There legit has to be something wrong with his mental state. He’s even creeping Preach out in the comments.
WoW already isn’t Overwatch. They don’t need to add extra layers to keep it from not being something it already isn’t.

You mean like allowing people to experiment with different builds and setups? You know the kind of thing that makes a game fun?

The difference is that it’s an RPG but with people. That doesn’t mean the game can’t have RPG mechanics
You still can. You just can’t swap around covenants multiple times a week

TIL being a freelance mercenary isn’t a valid option as far as RPGs go.
RPGs can have people. I’ve played D&D since the 90s and never sat down for a session at an empty table.
The MMO part changes the entire equation though.
We lose the sense of identity with belonging to a covenant. Your question is like asking what do you lose if Blizzard removes classes.
Stop equating covenants to classes, they’re not the same.
My identity is as a resto druid. I couldn’t care less about covenant identity. Its going to last 2 years, why bother getting attached?

It’s not like that though, because he’s not asking to remove classes. He’s asking to remove a restriction placed on top of classes and specs, and to keep the rest.

It isn’t? I thought Overwatch was all about picking a skillset (character) on the go to counter the enemy skillsets and forming team synergies (“metas”) and just playing Pokemon with that stuff.
Isn’t that what the OP wants? Switch loadouts to perfectly match every situation every time?
OP is playing a Shaman, so I feel pretty comfortable saying he isn’t looking to perfectly match every situation every time.
Also - no, WoW right now, today, is not Overwatch. Don’t even pretend you don’t know that.

Overwatch is an FPS. WoW isn’t. Until your team grasps this concept we’re not going to be able to move this discussion forward.
You realize in Mythic Raiding running an Rsham is mandatory right? Stacking them is bad but you can cheese so many mechanics with Darkness+Link its not even funny.
Semantics. Gameplay isn’t identical but how you pick your desired skills isn’t all that far off.
Why get attached to anything? Who is Litch King, He went away at the end of the expansion. How about Garoth. He want away at MOP, Illidian, and the Burning Legion? Their time is done.
Or Any game for that matter. When you beat it., Its over.
