Pug Safely until?

So i understand its a bit of an oxymoron.

But how high do you think one can safely push in m+ ?

And i mean true PuG. 50+ keys and i think ive run with the same person only twice. So none of that oh we pick up one or two people outside of our regular group so we pug too. I mean straight 5 strangers.

I seem to be hitting a wall around that 18-19 range. Ill get my 2500 this week, but id like to push for portals.

Id like to say that 90% of the time im not the issue lol

Seems DPS isnt much of an issue. The numbers are there, so long as they stay alive. It seems to be a few mechanical/'situational awareness issues.

A missed interrupt, clipped a swirlie, ate a frontal, didnt understand mechanics…still.

Is the 18-19’ range where true PuGs hit a wall?

I would say 20

I got a 2700io friend that got there with just PUGs. You can PUG up through probably +23-24 if you have patience.

So just a little more perseverance is what youre saying

There’s some people who got into high M+ levels by pugging alone. Really there’s no limit and some prefer grinding in such a setting.

I feel it’d be worlds easier as an organized group but if you prefer pugging, by all means go for it.

Last season i got to 2900 and it got easier after a certain point.

20s became easy with pugs with similar IO.

I have higher success with people and groups when i am making my own groups rather than pugging into one.

You’ll stop hitting a wall and just straight start gaining IO

I’ve been up to 24s with pugs before.

I will say a lot of people who “pug up to 3k” it’s mostly them being the 5th man for a bunch of otherwise static groups. Not many true full pugs above like 21 I’d say

Oh yeah, 100% i just do not have a schedule that would allow such a thing. Sadly

Yeah i may have to do this. I just hate waiting around for the “right” ones to apply.

May have to list my key and go afk for 10 minutes and then come back and take my pick from.the crop

Thus is different than going all the way up to 24s strictly pugging though

I feel like 15 is my wall at the moment.

the amount of damage isn’t usually the problem. most everyone is doing 50k+

to me, 15 is where the mechanics become fairly unforgiving.
I’m just trying to get into 16s so I can get freaking aspect crests.

as a “serious casual” (2100 rating), I am impressed with people who do 20s and above. It is roughly 8-10% of players. good on you.

21+ is where I would say the “wall” is.

I say that because I have guildies who aren’t necessarily that great skill wise who still manage to get into 20-21 regularly.

For me pugging was always the mid 20s as a wall.

Pug for life, the end :stuck_out_tongue:

Perhaps i need to attribute my good runs to exceptional healers. Not so much dor me. But those with good reflexes to catch the mistakes the DPS make

I’ve easily timed +18 keys on my Devastation Evoker. I guess it comes down to personal skill and luck of the draw.

Yeah im in that 18s range right now. Should have timed the 19 i joined but not sure what happened on last boss in VP. Had 2 DPS eat it during add being up.

Wipe and run back and continued fight put us over the timer :frowning:

Had about 15 deaths overall. Seemed we lost a dps every other pull

Once you get above 20, the quality of pugs increases dramatically. Not just in skill, but also attitude.

The skill level of pugs in the 18ish range is a mixed bag, but this is the level where people tend to have the worst attitude of any key level. Mistakes and/or wipes that should be easy to overcome end up killing the run because people start screaming at each other.

Everyone makes mistakes at every key level. Better players make fewer mistakes, but the biggest difference is that people in higher keys are less likely to tilt.

If you want to make your keys more successful, have a good attitude and do your best to keep things positive for the others in your group as well.

Ive gotten lucky and havent run into many attitude problems. Only one i can recall ia a key holder getting annoyed in an 18 UR because we kept wiping afger Tantrum because we had too many maggots up. Even after using Vortex to kite the little guys so DPS could kill them safely, everyone tunneled the boss. So after the 3rd wipe on the same boss, i called it

I think it depends on your spec really. In terms of how easy to is to pug to high io:

Healer by FAR has it the easiest of anyone
Meta tank
Non meta tanks
Meta DPS
Non meta DPS with heroism
Everyone else

“Everyone else” is the “better off running your own key” bucket.

Is there a limit? Probably not until the mid 20’s. But how difficult it will be, that definitely depends on how badly needed what your playing is by the rest of the community.

It happens. You’re not going to time every key, especially if you’re trying to push your limits with people who are also pushing their limits.

The red flag is if you frequently find yourself saying, “God, I hate pugs” after groups. It’s a sign that you’re going in looking for a fight and ensuring you’ll find one.

If that’s the case, chances are you’re the problem.
