Any regular M + player that’s has geared properly and has learnt the M+ mechanics of dungeons has experienced the frustration of pugs at some point or another.
As an example: You can have a 2050 ksm, 402 ilvl Hunter that’s has No mechanic experience because they’ve been carried throughout the entire experience.
This is most noticeable when they’re dying multiple times to mechanics, they don’t interrupt, or their dps is way below average. I get people can have bad games. But this goes way beyond that.
It’s incredibly frustrating when your keys are getting burnt due to this issue that seems to be growing.
I inspect characters for gear, check ksm, and cross check that with their ilvl. If they’re 400ilvl and have 990 ksm it’s pretty evident… But it’s not fool proof.
Anyone else experiencing this? Or have any tips besides running with a set group of people?
Mythic + pug groups can be an absolute nightmare

I’d suggest making some friends in pugs, for starters. You’re going to play some of your best games if you can pick up just 1 or 2 people to run with. Why? It opens up a line of communication between you and your new friends. For some reason, WoW players are very bad at communicating unless they have a condition attached to someone, such as being in a Guild, on a friend’s list, or in a community that has been pre-established.
Players failing a mechanic doesn’t inherently mean they are terrible at the game either --everyone plays a bad game from time to time. It happens.
It also just so happens that higher keys such as 17 or 18 for a starting point, have a higher frequency of mechanic failure = instant death. Those levels are pretty much the point where certain things can no longer be out-geared and result in 1 shots.
I’ve been in groups where the healer or tank or even dps has 2k+ IO on their main and were particularly bad on character they played in that given group.
But that is just the luck of the draw and nature of plugging in general. Applying some arbitrary overlays/ restrictions would ultimately backfire.
If you have 2.8k IO tank does it mean you are only 2k IO healer or only a 1.5k IO dps…
I know what you out are asking for, but I don’t think it’s neither workable, nor in the spirit of what PUG means.
ma dude, you have like 8 raid teams in your guild community, surely you can find someone to run keys with.
