Public order profession tool crafting, beware

I’m not sure if this is a bug (I also made a report) or a new feature, but consumers can deselect mettle in the order pane when doing a public order for profession tools. I was under the impression based on the wowhead article that consumers would still be required to provide all soulbound reagents in the public crafting interface. There are several tool orders with a decent commission for mats, but not for mettle. Yes, it’s a mistake I made since there wasn’t a checkmark there, but I didn’t think anyone could even order without it. If that’s how it works, fine, but just a fair warning to you all navigating this system. Mettle stock RIP.

I believe it is intended. They modeled it after personal orders and that’s how personal orders have worked (I’ve done this to level my alt’s professions using my other alts mettle). Blizzard did say that while most BoP mats were required by the person making the order, there were some exceptions where either person could provide it. Mettle has definitely been one of the exceptions all of dragon flight for personal orders.

I would wager that when they lifted the constraint on public orders, they just mirrored what was done on personal orders.

I’m not even messing with crafting orders since the change. I used to log out by the crafting table and log in every once in a while to see what I could grab, but the chance for a catastrophic mistake is just too high now. I was looking at one order just an hour ago and thinking, “The only mat this person included was the illimited diamond.” Then I clicked a few more and saw that they were all the same situation, and realized the mistake I could have made.

I also don’t want to waste 5 minutes clicking through 80 orders from people trying to get 600g worth of mats out of the crafter for a 50s commission.

Thanks for your response. I mostly do some public orders and personal orders for my alts, so I didn’t even notice you could remove it on those. In my opinion, I think it should definitely be required in public orders. I am extra vigilant now before I make anything after I did at least two without realizing, but it does still add to the clutter of orders you will probably take a loss on.

I can relate to the wariness of the new system. The change seemed to have caused some crafters to make mistakes this past week from looking at other threads. Thankfully, I’ve still found a few decent orders in the system, but feel like I have to be extra careful choosing and triple check what is included. It used to be a nice stress-free activity lol. I was pretty upset that the mettle slipped by my review process. I use the “No Mats; No Make” addon I found on Reddit and that seems to help filter them to some degree.

Mettle, while soulbound, has NEVER been required by the customer. While I do wish it would quit putting the message up when I MANUALLY apply stuff on my end, FFS. It is ultimately up to the crafter to make sure everything is in order.

They “could” have highlighted stuff since it is easy to not notice a checkmark.

It was always required in the old public order system, which is mainly where my complaints and initial confusion were. I rarely did personal orders (aside from those for my alts), so other like me may also not have realized. I don’t like the new public order changes, but mainly wanted to warn others so they don’t make the mistakes I did.
