Neat-o torpedo
Been like that for a while, actually. But it is good to remind people, since the Wowpedia site won’t be updated anymore. Fandom won’t take it down, though. I can’t remember why. Let me see if I can find the old thread.
Edit to add the old thread for reference on what happened:
I believe something like this happened with the Minecraft wiki and Fandom. They keep the site up since it still draws clicks even though it is no longer updated.
I think I read something like they also limit how you can inform people about the new wiki location, meaning you couldn’t just leave a sign up that says “we’ve moved over here now!”.
I’ve heard some negative things about Fandom and how they treat wikis that eventually want to move.
It’s still updated. Archmage Drenden has info about his reappearance in 10.2.7
Haphazardly and no one should be using it as reference any longer. Use the new one.
Agreed.
But getting people to move to a new wiki when google returns the old one as the first result and probably always will is rough.
(it actually comes up first if you specifically search ‘warcraft wiki’, but most people won’t be doing that if they’re not aware of it, they’ll be searching “wow” or “world of warcraft”, both of which return the old one(s)).
That URL is hilarious.
there is a browser extension you can get that automatically reroutes you to the new wiki. even if wowpedia comes up on the search result, clicking on the wowpedia link will send you to the new Wiki.
doesn’t really help much on mobile but at least on desktop/laptop it’s an option.
Again the issue is more that… people who don’t follow it that closely won’t know about that. They’ll be googling “wow wiki”, not looking into how to make sure they never ever end up on a fandom wiki or whatever.
There was a script for people to use. But I just bookmarked the wiki.gg and search there.
Which is why it’s been so frustrating for the creators and Fandom deserves a middle finger from me. lol
This is so good lol. Fandom sucks, not even just for their spammy nature of recommending random wikis, but for the lackluster interface. From the search quality to the way their directory system is just a single index that isnt even a complete index of every page, it all sucks and I hate when a game has their wiki on fandom.
Not to mention that you NEED an adblocker to peruse anything in Fandom.
The old wowpedia site is really ugly/not working properly anymore now too. Links and lots of stuff is just broken. For Firefox at least I can just add the new one to my search bar and search it there. However, anyone that just does a google search is going to come up with entries on the old site. Who knows how long it’ll be before google updates that.
Sendryn is the only reason I know of this.
I did something good for once!
I had a lot of stuff on there. Hope it gets pulled over to the new site.
Everything from there was pulled into the new one months ago.

There’s a wiki.gg Redirect that will help bring traffic to the site and send you there over wowpedia.
