So I’m posting this once again as a reminder to new/returning players and those not paying attention, that Blizzard for some reason enabled vertical sync in your graphics settings.
If you uncheck it you should see a sizeable performance gain with your FPS.
Vertical Sync is used when you have screen tearing, and should not effect the vast majority of players.
Check your settings.

That’s a very helpful PSA. Mine was turned on, turned it off and gained about 25 FPS.
Thanks.

Turn v-sync off and have wildly fluctuating refresh rates and inconsistent response times?
Nah, I’ll leave it locked.

Absolutely not like this at all, Vert Sync is for screen tearing only and it’s widely documented that it decreases FPS and it is suggested players keep it turned off.

Not that i needed it, already capped out on my monitor. But regardless, i gained another 40 fps disabling this. ty

Ya v-sync 100% is a system tax and increases input lag. Every competitive fps gamer always turns v-sync off for a reason.

I’d have to confirm, but I think WOW is an mmorpg and not a competitive FPS.

VSync can be really helpful when your PC is capable of rendering way more FPS than your monitor is capable of displaying. The graphical artifacts caused by an excessive amount of frames per second can often be just as bad as having too few. I use Freesync and a 165hz monitor, so I don’t deal with tearing.
But a fixed-rate monitor can have tearing with vsync off. You may not even perceive the tearing. It may just appear jerky,

Someone was giving support to the post, showing that in other games this is the case also, no reason to troll in a PSA thread dude, thanks for the bump though.

I appreciate the info, my post still stands as a PSA for the masses.
Happy Turkey day!

Well, you do that, go and confirm before you contribute to public ignorance. Why would you even remark without fact checking?
edit: Oh you thought that input lag is inapplicable to mmo players for some reason? FPS players just know what they are doing. Most mmo players don’t, because of the difference in genres you suggested. Input lag is still incredibly important in WoW, it effects how snappy or sluggish your rotations will feel. Some people are dealing with pretty heavy input lag. It’s the same with when you go to loot something and there is a delay before it goes into your bag. Sometimes it is server lag, sometimes it’s your own setup.

Thanks for the catch, I honestly noticed my fps wasn’t as usual. Bloody vsync. I let my friends know in our Discord.

No, I thought that a tiny amount of input lag might be preferable to massive screen tearing in an MMORPG where the input lag is generally meaningless. Not that I use vsync, I use gsync with a frame rate limiter because the 3080 is powerful enough to cause screen tearing.
I keep mine enabled. The only time I turn anything from on/max is with 50+ players on the screen.
Thought wrong, input lag in WoW sucks.
