You just said you’d leave right at the pull… this is exactly the kind of thing we’re screening for.
It isn’t even so much to make sure they know how to play the game, but if they don’t know something, we can easily communicate.
Not joining disc shows lack of effort and indicates the type of toxic behavior like leaving at the start of the pull which you just confessed you would do.
Best of luck to you with your pugs.

sounds good 19 is better then playing with someone who cant follow basic directions like get into a voice chat. 1 less person to distribute loot to. could have saved yourself some time and just not joined in the first place.

What basic directions do I need to hear from you to kill Ony? Look at my gear then decide if you think it’s worth kicking me over Discord.
Wide left on pull to avoid tail. Kill the add on pull. Hug the wall on P2. Spread out, stay on boss as Ranged, use traps on adds to help CC and damage them. Don’t aggro Onyxia while she’s landing.
P3 avoid being near whelp cave before fear and all subsequent fears, reposition yourself against the back wall. OT groups adds with boss for cleave.
Don’t get tail swiped or feared into the cave. Did I miss anything?
the basic direction for ony is to get into the voice chat. its screening for bad players. if you cant follow basic instructions like getting into a voice chat you are bad sorry not sorry.
the raid leader sets the rules you do not. form your own pug if you dont want to use voice chat.

Not wanting to get in a voice call with a bunch of strangers isnt a benchmark for skill, dont be weird

Kinda exposed yourself with this post bub. I know you think you’re too good for spending a whopping 15 seconds on joining a VC which you can just leave after the fact, but you clearly are the sort of player that groups would be better off not picking up.

Please explain why someone who is experienced is required to get into Discord, I would love to hear it.
I have done numerous Ony pugs and haven’t died nor wiped the group once. It’s not hard stuff. At least not at my own mistake or fault.
In fact, I can’t remember one time this season in retail or Cataclysm when a pug required voice chat. If you didn’t know what to do, the RL would explain.
I was just addressing the fact you exposed yourself as someone willing to outright grief a raid group over some petty nonsense like having to spend a whopping 15 seconds joining a VC.
I really don’t care about the ‘issue’ otherwise, it’s clearly a you problem because you’re in-need of something extremely petty to gripe about.

Because the raid lead has no way to verify that you are telling the truth.
Also it’s very handy for specific things during the fight, like calling for for bop / battle res / fear ward / soulstone etc.

If the pug message in LFG says discord is required you simply don’t message them to join.

Soft Res is a very useful tool for pugs especially in raids with larger loot tables like MC and Ony because it helps spread out the loot instead of having one person get lucky and sweep all the loot for their spec with random rolls. Requiring discord is whatever, I don’t generally love being in VC with randos, but joining at least demonstrates you’re willing to follow instructions, which is the real reason most people that require VC do so.

Don’t join them then. Dunno why you felt the need to make a thread about this when it’s a complete non-issue.

Didn’t read most of this thread but why doesn’t OP start his own pugs if he doesn’t want discord? Couldn’t that solve all of his problems?

I think he was trying to feel high and mighty about nothing and is quickly finding out that that’s not the case.

not joining the discord is just disrespectful, mate
pro tip, if you’re really so sure you don’t need to hear the discord talk, just mute the tab in your browser. no one will see that you’re not listening.

Idk what the big hoopla is all about Join the disc server, go into the call. Pug is over leave the disc server. Really not that difficult.

But if he does that, he cant post about it on the forums…

That’s usually not the case. They rarely put ‘discord required’ in the advertisement. We get right up to the part where everyone is buffed and ready to go before telling the raid that Discord is mandatory, otherwise no loot.
If they tell me Discord is required as soon as I join the group, that is perfectly fine. I can leave and find a new group. No time or supplies wasted.
I play on Steam Deck usually because it’s more comfortable for me and joining a new Discord server on mobile every time I PUG is a hassle, right before we are about to start.
I play a Hunter. I don’t really need to hear callouts. I know where to stand and what to do. I know when to shoot the boss and when not to.
It’s really not rocket-science. I’ve pugged retail and Cata raids all season w/o Discord and rarely has there been a time where communication was causing problems.
