PSA: Screenshot your settings, back up folders tonight

So tonight, people might want to do a couple things, just as a warning:

  1. The system/interface menus have all changed. It might screw up your settings. A lot of the game settings are so obscure that if you asked me what mine are, I’d have to look it up. Water collision? Mouse speed? Things like that. You might want to go through the system & interface menus and screenshot all the settings, in case you have to manually go back in and change them to what you’re used to.
(And that will take a while, because the menus are really, really different. Like… changed for the first time in 20 years different.)

  2. As always, back up your Interface & WTF folders from your game files. Just make a copy somewhere. Just in case. Just go into worldofwarcraft\retail and copy the Interface folder and WTF folder someplace.

A few minutes tonight could save you a lot of headache.

I saved UI to transfer over, but I had been banking that my setting on average (keybinds and such) wouldn’t change. Your post is right though. Weirdness may happen and it’s better safe than sorry.

Thank you kindly for the reminder.

My plan is to just re do it all from scratch. My UI and keybinds are due for an overhaul anyway.

That sounds like quite the DIY project, enjoy!

It will be. Keeps me out of trouble during the pre-patch. I’ve become a much better player since I first set up my UI during Legion and this gives me the perfect excuse to re-do it from the ground up with a more seasoned eye.

I like to make a point to re-evaluate my mods and redo my UI every expansion.

Honestly since the entire thing is being revamped, i am going to try redoing everything based on a wirless mouse rather than touchpad.

Thats right, i am that maniac who has been using and prefers touchpad on my laptop.

But im working on a gaming pc so i want to learn mouse nonsense.

Glad there is another! I’ve never even used a mouse!

Bumping this up since it’s an excellent PSA. Screenshots will be a very good idea – if nothing else, a place to start.

Im hoping the import UI feature is compatible with the UI ive set up on PTR.
Ive already perfected it on there.

But i have also taken screenshots of it on there incase it goes wrong.

How do you make a copy of the interface and WTF folders?

Go to the worldofwarcraft\retail folder.

Click the Interface folder. Press CTRL+C

Go to your Desktop or wherever.

Press CTRL+V

Or just have the window open and click-and-drag it to your desktop and select “copy” if it asks.

Nothing special.

Elvui for the win

That and I make monthly back ups of wow

Would anyone like to place bets on elvui being broken tomorrow?

I doubt it…since its already updated for DF
That and I already have a program sort of like bug sack that keeps all the Lua errors where I don’t have to see them

Oh I know, it just seems to break a lot even in the best of times.

How many times have I heard somebody log in for raid and start with, “elvui isn’t working” or “my entire UI is gone”.

Don’t know but I guess I’m just a lucky sob
Never had that happen to me in 8 years
