Around 2 years ago. No wonder why Immortal is what it is.
Well, Immortal was a great advert for Path of Exile. I may reinstall either that or grim dawn.

Am I the only one that feels like D3 is a strictly better game than PoE?
Path’s storytelling and atmosphere are incredible but from an actual gameplay perspective, it’s abysmal.

Gameplay wise. Yes.
RPG wise. No.
If we could have the gameplay of diablo 3 mixed with the RPG elements of Path of Exile, Blizzard would strike gold.

PoE is modeled after Diablo 2, the game most Diablo devs wanted to develop for 3, but were told not to because Activision. Remember the auction house that you could buy gear for real money? I do.
Meanwhile you can play PoE for free and get a good amount of enjoyment out of it. Want to spend money? 5 bucks gets you a currency tab, a tab that lets you buy/sell items automatically like an auction house, and lots of other stuff.

Well, the mobile Diablo is being developed by a Chinese company, not Blizzard, and they're basically just reskinning one of their other mobile action-RPGs to do it.

Like, you have that backwards right?

Incorrect. The mass exodus from Blizzard North (and its eventual shutdown) was caused by disagreements with the direction of Vivendi the Activision/Vivendi stuff leading up to Activision-Blizzard. They also had a sort of Diablo in space game in the initial development phase that disappeared to never be spoken of again.
This is why it took so long for D3. Irvine had to start completely fresh from nothing.

Most competent diablo devs left after d2 release when b north split from blizzard.

No, Brevik joined the PoE team a few years back, but he wasn't part of Blizzard then... not sure if more joined them. I do know that there were Diablo devs moved into the WoW team. Ergo why we got some Diablo things in Legion just renamed and reskinned.
There was a mass exodus several years ago though. When PoE still didn't exist.

I am still hopeful D2 remaster is in the works but sadly since it wasn't announced I doubt it will be seen before 2020.
They don't need the original dev team to do to D2 what they have done with WC3. I can get on board with that.
I don't find Grim Dawn (which I own and played) or PoE (which I played very little) very satisfying.

I doubt there any Diablo developers within Blizzard at this point. It's been 4.5 years since their last expansion and this mobile game is being developed by a different company.

PoE just didn't hold my attention. D3 did, and quite well (granted I played after the expansion had been released)
