PSA: How to Quote

I’ve seen a number of people expressing confusion about how to quote now, or distaste for having the highlight what you want to post in order to do it. So, I figured I’d share the ways you can quote.

  1. Highlighting the text you wish to quote, and clicking the pop up or right click “quote” button.

  2. Clicking the chat bubble in the top left corner that appears after you click “reply” on another commenter. This automatically quotes everything they said.

I think this is the biggest problem with the new forums, there is a learning curve most people aren’t used to having for something that used to be very simple and intuitive.

Thanx for the tip. I was not aware of that method of quoting.

Glad to be of assistance!
I kept having to reply to people when they didn’t know how to do it, so I figured this was the best way to get the word out.

But yeah, these forums clearly take a bit to learn. I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it either.

Apparently you can only like so many things a day. I don’t know what the limit is, but people have already hit it.

You also get more daily likes as you move up the trusted levels.

Unfortunately so, but I’m glad I was able to figure it out quickly so others don’t have to suffer the frustration as long.

Yeah this was pretty much the first thing I asked when they came out.
I guess having the hidden reply linked is alright, but sometimes you want to imbed the quote so people don’t have to go out of their way to get context on what you are replying to.

They really just need to put a quote button in that collection at the bottom of every post.

Other Methods

    • Highlight a post by scrolling with j and k.
    • Hit q
    • You have quoted the post.
    • Don’t like using j and k for navigation? That is fine.
    • Give that scroll bar on the right a click to make sure it’s on the post # you want to quote.
    • Hit q
    • You have quoted the post associated with the #.
