PSA: Flagging is NOT the replacement for downvotes!

I know, wasn’t meant as an “attack,” just a discussion =)

Discretion, its becoming very powerful.

Lately it seems a lot of stuff is just arbitrarily enforced, and the stuff that does get moderated doesn’t always make sense, while stuff that should be is left alone

You have to walk on eggshells now-a-days, unfortunately.

I get the whole “grow some thicker skin” retort that people seem to enjoy using. However, it’s not really about “I can’t take it” but filling threads up with those types of non value-added responses just makes people have to dig further to read the topic.

File a ticket and have it investigated. Probably won’t do anything, but could be some justice here.

Which yet again opens up pandora’s box. Who defines what has value and what doesn’t? Layering subjective standards doesn’t make them suddenly NOT subjective.

No such thing. Its a construct created to make life more palatable. Good luck getting people to agree on a definition of it, much less applications of it.

For example, let’s say I were to follow you to every thread you post in, reply to all of your posts with “lol git gud scrub” (random selection). I’m sure it wouldn’t bother you to the point where you’re thinking “grr! i’m mad!” but it’s cumbersome because it’s not anything valuable or relevant to the thread, just spam.

Posting to support you, Rhielle. I’m 100% on your side.

The people who flagged this post, and who use flagging as downvotes are idiots, period.

One example on a spectrum of essentially limitless examples proves nothing. Yes, I understand what you are saying. The point is, it still has to contend with the asinine contention of perception.

Value is in the eye of the beholder, an inherently subjective standard. So long as subjectivity is the measuring stick, the system is flawed.

Amen to that.

Gotta love measurements that cannot be quantified.

“Idiot abused the rules gets punished”, in this context.

Not my problem either way. I think the concept is fairly universally known, though. What measures needing to be taken is where the subjectivity comes in. I think the person I replied directly to would agree with my take on it.

Every meaning is a construct we made up, so it’s a moot point to make.

I agree. Idiots who should be suspended themselves and who the OP is talking about.

No. A rock isn’t a human construct. Energy that can be measured and transformed into various forms isn’t a human construct. Lets not turn this into a silly debate and derail the thread please.

The key word there was meaning. Words, definitions, concepts. Don’t be obtuse.

Yeah pretty much this. Which is why my OP most likely got flagged. I guess people don’t like when you try to be helpful or point out how we all just wanna be awesome together. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I love you all, regardless of the flagging!

I like you Rhielle, but please tone down the cheerfulness or I’ll have to flag you. It’s way too early in the morning to be this cheerful.

Kaylee: No, it’s shiny. I like to meet new people. They’ve all got stories.
Jayne: Captain, can you stop her from bein’ cheerful, please?
Mal: I don’t believe there’s a power in the ‘verse can stop Kaylee from bein’ cheerful. Sometimes you just want to duct tape her mouth and dump her in the hold for a month.”

Just so you all know what goes through my mind when someone is being overly cheerful.

People jump avatars to flag, which is why I wish we just had one avatar for the forums like they do on the Diablo forums.
My alliance alt is the same name as me. When I’m on her I read thread and sometimes like them it might be doubling up but i don’t do it on purpose since I pretty much only use her at work so I can get her to level 3 and switch over to her for the forums.
