PSA: Don't use Public Computers

*was asked to move this to general discussion

This post isn’t to try and change what happened. Just to make people aware and to be careful

A few weeks ago I woke up to an email stating my account had been suspended for 18 months due to using unauthorized 3rd part software.

I immediately put in a ticket to appeal as it is simply impossible for this to be the case. My computer is brand new and the only programs installed are:
Chrome
Wow/Battle.net
Warcraft Logs
Twitch
TSM
Telegram
Skype
Microsoft Office

I sent this to blizzard along with a list of add-ons I use:
Dbm
Mythic Dungeon Tools
!keys
Weak aura
Handy Notes
Hekili
Mik’s Scrolling Battle Text
Clique
Ask Mr. robot
Simulation Craft
TSM

I was informed later that it was not addon related as I was worried it was a spam macro I use via gse. But one button press per action.

I don’t use a fancy mouse or keyboard so there isn’t any macro things like Razer or Logitech which someone in my guild asked.

The only potential red flag was that I used to go to a gaming computer cafe where I used their computers.

I have copies of these emails with the manager of the cafe as well as receipts of payment from my gaming trips.

I offered to send these through to which blizzard replied that the penalty was final.

I requested a name of the third party software so I could track down the source…no luck as I received a generic response.

I’ve had this account close to 12 years. I have 5 475+ toons and was pushing high level m+. I have spent thousands of dollars on character boosts for different realms due to my travels. Race changes and name changes too.

I am appalled at the lack of genuine customer service and I’m disappointed to see loyal players treated at guilty without proof or opportunity to prove innocence.

The moral of this story is that you can’t trust blizzard for a fair decision. So please be careful whats on the computer you play with.

Or like me, someone who has been loyal to the game and made the mistake of playing on a public computer, may end up with a Ludacris 18 month ban for something that was not intentional or purposeful.

What a shame blizzard

I’d keep trying. A lot of ‘final penalties’ aren’t final. Hopefully a forum Blue sees this

I’ve responded multiple times and the GM just resolves the ticket so I cant reply.

I’m sorry this happened to you but this doesn’t seem to add up. An 18 month ban for a fist time offender seems a bit much.

I feel like there’s more to the story than is being told.

That really sucks, i hope that it gets worked out and someone from Blizzard gives you more than just a copy-paste response.

Having said that, for every 100 times i have read stories like this, probably 95 of them are people that got caught doing the wrong thing and are now just trying to backtrack and deflect lol

How professional

On top of what Rialius pointed out, idk if the latter half of your post was really necessary–it’ll probably only work against you. (It was also kinda cringe, ngl)

Ye. No point talking about carries/sales. Those have always been in the game and despite what ppl think- aren’t bad for the game

It’s not right for blizz to suspend someone for 18 months and not telling them exactly what they did.

It’s a difficult topic to discuss. A Blizzard employee could just come in here and lie about you cheating multiple times and everyone would believe them.

This is definitely unfair though. No penalty should EVER be final. If someone has proof they didn’t do something, they should have the chance to provide that evidence, unless they have a record of lying to support staff and wasting their time.

I’ve got emails from the gaming cafe sharing the programs they use and receipts from my visits.

And this post isn’t to try and change the outcome. I’ve already accepted it and made the decision to move on from Blizzard.

The post is to serve as a PSA for people to avoid making the same mistake

public computers or cafes are always a bad idea

That is usually the case. A cheater will also typically be willing to lie up the wazoo to try and gain support. I’ve seen it over and over.

As have I.

However, I’m not trying to get the decision changed or overturned.

I’ve already made the decision to no longer support the company.

This was just a way to make people aware of simple mistakes.

Aside from that, there’s no other motivations or potential outcomes.

I’ll even state it here: blizzard mods and blue posters…I’m not looking for the decision to be changed. This is just an awareness post for people to not make the same mistake I did

Unless I was broke or homeless, I would never use a public computer where I have to put a name and password for anything. I’m surprised those computers can even run games with all the crap (viruses, adware, etc) they must have on them.

But good luck, I hope Blizzard understands and gives you your account back.

It’s a professional gaming cafe.

All computers are secure and have top teir hardware

I was using it as I’m on disability pension and it took me a year to save for a computer.

Didn’t have any other options to play

18 months is usually the suspension length for a 2nd offence of this 3rd party software ban, first one being 6 months.

Not saying this is the case OP, just pointing that out.

Okay, apologies. I never been to a gaming cafe or used a public computer so I had no idea, I just figure with so many people using each computer, it would be a bad idea.

I provided a response with clear and all information. I am big on transparency. So I wanted to post all details

I like, totally believe you.
