I along with several users on wowhead believe we have been experiencing a bug with the drop rate of the Protoform Sentience Crown in Zereth Mortis. This bug is only affecting a subset of players who took the following actions:
- Had 2 crowns drop while farming in the open world
- Crafted both the Buzz and Ineffable Skitterer mounts before farming for the 3rd crown
- Now are unable to get a 3rd crown to drop however long we farm, and thus are unable to craft the Pale Regal Cervid.
Users on wowhead who believe they are affected by this bug are reporting killing 10s of thousands of mobs with no drop, even though members of their farming groups are getting drops alongside them. The bug appears to affect all characters on a player’s account.

Obviously there is no way for us to definitively prove that this bug exists as it involves a low drop rate item, but the pattern of the reports and my personal experience farming for it suggest there is something going on here.

I honestly believe there must be a bug here.
Prior to crafting Buzz & Ineffable Skitterer, it would take less than an hour to obtain a crown when grinding the northern isle of Zereth Mortis. That zone is pretty sparse with mobs so it is by no means an optimal farm.
In comparison if farming in the Blooming Foundry which has a lot more mob density and the spawn rate is almost instant if you have a full group of 5 cleaving the mobs down. You can easily kills thousands in this spot.
I’ve been farming in Blooming Foundry for over 2 days and seen many many people get their first 3 crowns in 30 mins to an hour, mean while I will never loot the third.
I have added 5 bnet accounts in my time farming there who have explained same situation as me, crafting the 2 crown mounts listed above then with similar farming times they cannot loot the third either. Anecdotally they have two WoW accounts as do I but not sure if that is relevant.
Having secondary characters or accounts unlock the system and attempt to get the crown, equally cannot get the drop to happen.

I have the same problem I crafted the other two mounts before getting the third crown. I have the pale cervid unlocked too… I have farmed over 4 days about 6-8 hours a day. NO CROWNS. I have seen over 30 crowns drop for people in under an hour. THIS IS A MAJOR BUG. Blizzard needs to fix this!
This seems to be getting more attention as more folks have unlocked the cervid schematic. I’m seeing reports of GM ticket replies suggesting that crowns won’t drop if we haven’t unlocked all the schematics, so just to be clear:
**This is happening to players who have unlocked all 3 schematics. **
I’m wondering if the problem has something to do with how the Pale Regal Cervid schematic is awarded differently from all the other ones?
On a side note, I’m continuing to get eternal ragepearl drops even though I’ve unlocked and crafted all of those mounts. Not sure if that’s intended/related/etc.

I have all schematics and yes the pale one unlocked… still MANY hours of farming and NO crowns… everyone in my groups get them but me. I have all cyphers unlocked. ALL current schematic unlocked. This is very frustrating! Crazy part is ragepearls drop all the time for me… its like a slap in the face lol

Firstly, I know it’s taken us a while to get back to you on this issue, as we had a lot of tickets this week, so I just wanted to say thanks a lot for being patient 
It’s my understanding you ran into some problem with the Protoform Sentience Crown item that is not dropping for your character.
I know the feeling, I’ve been there already, and there’s no bug with this game mechanic. In order to be able to drop the Protoform Sentience Crown you need to be elegible, and being elegible means you need to find first the mount schematic.
You got 2 Protoform Sentience Crown since you had the schematics for Buzz and the Ineffable Skitterer, which you already added to your collection.
Now, for the third mount, the Pale Regal Cervid you need first to find the schematic, otherwise you’ll never drop the Protoform Sentience Crown, no matter how time you spend farming it.

Apparently getting the schematic in the mail is bugged cuz i never got it even though in the protoform synthesis place it show i can make it. This is very confusing as to why I didnt get the schematic in the mail… which is then making it so i cant get a crown… this makes no sense! I built all the mounts w ragepearls but the rage pearls keep dropping.
This is now fixed! Just got my 3rd crown to drop from a Dominated Laborer on Antecedent Isle. Thanks to the blizzard folks who figured out the problem!

- The Protoform Sentience Crown will now correctly drop for all players who have unlocked Protoform Synthesis (Mount) and have not yet acquired all three mounts the Crown is required for (Buzz, Ineffable Skitterer, and Pale Regal Cervid).
