I’m sure it’s been beaten to death but small changes to protection warrior would go a long way. Currently, according to WCL, they are the least played tank – for good reason.
Prot warrior has absolutely atrocious scaling. Tclap doesn’t scale at all.
I can understand Blizzard’s essentially “hands-off” approach but prot warrior does need a small intervention on the threat side of things – mostly looking into the future where everyone is doing massively more damage and warrior threat scales horribly.
Poor choice. Youve known for 20 years wht was coming lol

Be a pragmatist. Don’t think of what could be. Think of what is, and mold your experience around that. Then, you will be happy.

It wasn’t adjusted for Classic and it’s not going to get adjusted for Anniversary.

True but it is the most fun tank in the game.
Prot Warrs are highly skill capped. A few percent are amazing but those guys can play any class amazingly, that is who your MT should be, Prot Warrs have all kinds of emergency tools. A Prot Pally is something even a armless person could play well on the other hand. You just use your nose to the consecrate key every 8 seconds and holy shield.

Prot warriors can literally gear pure threat and be uncrushable.
T-clap is a waste of a gcd if you’re trying to get threat.
In a dungeon, build your group properly to accommodate you being a prot warrior.
In a raid, just don’t try to AoE tank. Use the Paladin, warriors are boss tanks not trash tanks.
Bears have more snap threat but are crushable. Before dual spec, feral was the premium side tank since they can dps till needed.
With dual spec, just be dps spec till bosses.

This is why im an emergency tank not a dungeon tank.
Some changes would be nice and it could be simply that revenge hits 3 or 4 targets.
More snap threat like avenger shield would be nice i hate the usher pulls offing with a paladin that shields. Almost impossible to get second threat with no revenge procs.
Cool. Try doing that In ShH hc then get back to us.
Just commenting on this because I see it a lot. Protection Warriors scale very well. As the phases roll out you get some options that other tanks don’t have. Passively uncrushable without using shield block - total avoidance similar to a bear - a Shield Block Value set that does thousands of threat on crit - a super tanky set with the longest time to live (TTL) of any tank in the game. Protection Warrior scales very well but it comes down to gear you have in your bags and knowing what to equip for what you are trying to do. That’s the rub with Protection Warrior you need the gear to build those sets and the class/role experience to know what to do.
Thunder Clap does not scale and is not your “spam” ability to hold AOE threat. Every Warrior who tries to hold threat with Thunder Clap is probably struggling at multi-target threat. It is primarily a swing time debuff, secondly it does some threat to all mobs hit by it. Not enough threat to hold anything. I’m not saying don’t use Thunder Clap, I’m saying that building/holding AOE threat is not what it is for.
A a Protection Warrior your deal is hitting the mobs with Shield Slam, Revenge and Devastate and Cleave. You could have a shield with a Shield Spike on it, you could pick up a buff that does reflect damage, you could use dynamite/grenades/sappers, you could CC mobs that lower your APM needed to hold threat. There are options but it is a high APM tank class. Your party has to be a little smart and understand what the tank can and can’t do.
Yes, Paladin is brain dead easy for AOE. I’m not going to say that Protection Warriors shouldn’t get a buff for AOE tanking at the same time it is a Classic version of the game. It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me to do class balancing this 3rd time out for TBC.

Warrior tanking is by far the most fun. High APM play style where every GCD matters. The ONLY thing I’d wish for would be for shouts to be off GCD.
Otherwise, grab some arena gear and level engineering.
I complained a lot about warrior threat in the beginning. However, now that I am more geared and have more experience tanking, it’s not that bad. If you’re doing a heroic you’re tanking 2 to 3 mobs (cc the other). Mark one for dps to cleave off, of clap through strikes out with a macro. I dont even bother with salv in heroics. In a normal I make sure I have salv in the group and 10 mobs. Ill lose one or two but tab and taunt! In raid you’re going to have a pally for aoe pulls. Dev/hstrike with shield slam=threatmonster!!! I’d rather have a warrior on the boss! Pallies run out of mana= good dps die, and druids have no mitigation! Prot war ftw!
Druids have good mitigation just no block. Druids have mega hp pools and armour cap. Highest EH in the game. Downside is crushable in t4 and t5. They remove crush from attack table for many hard hitting bosses in t6 and swp.
The swp dodge debuff is for druids specifically
