I have been practicing tanking on my warrior and a few things I noticed. One, I have a hard time maintaining aggro on mobs, especially when they are spread out. I am talking about pug groups doing normal/heroic dungeons. I am way overgeared for this, like I said, I am practicing tanking. (ilvl 199)
Talents:
devastator
double time
dragon roar
crackling thunder
indomitable
ravager
bolster
I am venthyr covenant, which for tanking, is not ideal but good for arms and I am max out on renown and I am not switching.
Main problem is that some classes have insane burst, both aoe and single target. If I get a boomkin, fire mage and another arms warrior, stuff dies fast but dang, holding aggro is really hard. (poor healer) Is there any trick I can do? Lots of times I charge, stomp and then condemn (because whatever I condemn, I donât lose aggro because it hits like a truck) then use a defensive and use dragon roar or ravager if aggro is still an issue.
Lots of times, when adds are coming in, in middle of the fight, lots of my aoe attacks are on cooldown.
Sad thing is, my prot pally doesnât have aoe issues at all. Concecration ground, avengerâs shield and blessed hammers grab everything incoming.
The difference between my pally and warrior is the damage migration. I am shocked at how well, when I push the right defensives at the right time, that warrior can block, parry and deflect incoming damage. If I can just figure out the aoe thingâŚ
Might I suggest a couple of rotation changes. Donât use Condemn at all as an opener on trash pulls. For the bosses for ST âmini bossâ type mobs in a dungeon that should be fine, but an AoE pull means you should be spending all your rage on either defensives or AoE threat gen.
So Charge, clap, roar, defensive, revenge, clap (maybe one more revenge) and then start your kiting.
Throw ravager into the pack before charging in, charge, shield block, avatar, thunderclap, demo shout and spam revenge until you need to refresh shield block
Use Revenge more. If youâre in a boss fight with adds, it may be worth holding Ravager for when they spawn.
If youâre using Reprisal in dungeons (which you should, now that itâs been buffed), you can also run Best Served Cold and Anger Management, which will provide you substantial extra damage as well.
Practice and better gear will help you get and maintain aggro. DPS should be Missdirecting and tricksâing you as well. But if you run ravager, throw that first as you charge in.
And donât forget you have challenging shout. Use this only when needed at its a 4min CD.
Other then that, more haste = more attacks = more aggro.
