Protection paladin oom using word of glory

This frustrated me enough to make my own post about it. I went OOM during the last boss of a 20 Brackenhide key trying to help my healer clear the heal absorb de-buff off of me. It is actually ridiculous that the only quick heal we have access to is now mana capped. Any of my tank alts would not have a problem healing themselves through this de-buff allowing the healer to focus on keeping the rest of the party alive, especially on a tyrannical week.

If the problem blizzard was trying to address was protection paladin off healing, why not just nerf WOG when cast on other players? I think they indirectly ruined protection paladin sustain in PVE content giving WOG a mana cost.

I would have to do more testing, but I can only imagine there are other scenarios in high mythic plus content that you could go OOM during fights. I hope this gets fixed or adjusted.

Emphasizing this… the adding mana to WoG has resulted in prot paladins going OOM, spending time to drink between some pulls, and killing time in the process; a problem no other tanks have.

I know they wanted to reduce the off-heals that Prot Pallies used to pull off, but they gutted self-heals in the process and now Prot Pallies and the result is unacceptable.

Potential solution is to make off-heals continue to cost mana, but self-heals using WoG should be reverted to cost no mana.

In general making it cost mana made no sense. Especially with the fact it’s a HP and mana spell. I’m not really sure what the thought process was but it’s not translating well.

To eliminate groups being able to clear higher mythic plus runs without a healer.

i still dont know how your going oom unless your woging 11 times in a row without pressing sotr without pressing any defensives or anything. pvp you can probably oom as prot but pve? no this is 100% a skill issue.

I’m gearing out my Prot Paladin doing +17-20s and the one way you can OOM yourself is you dump all your Holy Power into nothing but WoG.

I am a bit disappointed at how hard it is to get the offhealing talents though. There’s so many better talent options available instead of having to path down towards Hand of the Protector. I remember when I played my tank in Shadowlands I would take HoP and offheal a lot in keys.

I can kinda see it. I got forced into tanking a 19 NL and I ran low on mana during the 3rd boss… cleansing. That’s it. A couple of rounds of cleansing and I was pretty low. It didn’t lead to anything dire that run fortunately.

I don’t have perms to post links, but look up my logs on warcraftlogs: Grand-Drak’thul

Specifically the 21 Brackenhide I timed a little over a week ago. There you can view my SOTR uptime and mana pool during the last boss fight.

You’re missing the point. You as the tank shouldn’t be able to easily cleanse and heal people through poor performance and/or carry a fight in that manner while also tanking.

These mana problems were a result of my own self healing. Refer to my recent reply above if you need proof of this and are doubting my ability to play the class.

I actually agree with you on your point though. I think prot paladin off healing needs to be adjusted or changed, I just believe the mana cost is the wrong way to approach this.

Given how long it took and how low the dps was… okay?

like were you the only one cleansing??? thats especially strange to run low on mana by just that

you are wogging alot, like way to much according to these logs, wogs that could have been sotr that could have been damage, not to mention your damage is low and general rotation is a little off. a similar gear tank in the same key level is doing 92k overal logged while you are doing 70k. so something is happening. maybe its your dps not killing htings fast enough or your healer is just bad.

you should not be going oom, like at all…you wogged 66 times

this guy
warcraftlogs com/reports/2Xqp7FNJPDntMBRC#fight=2&type=casts&source=2 woged 17 times

We had the same SOTR uptime and I had higher uptime on other defensives. If you are in SOTR and you are not getting enough external healing and or taking a lot of damage, casting WOG is not a problem. Not sure why you are making the argument against this mana change. Thanks for the rotation tips though it is much appreciated.

look at your mana wasted, you are wasting a metric ton when you shouldnt be using wog at all. heck even in a uldamon key another prot paladin uses wogs 4 5 times and still doesnt have these mana issues so idk whats happening with you at this point if it aint wog usage. maybe improper wog usage??? i wish i could help[ you more and find the source of the issue but i believe its beyond my own expertise. i would suggest posting a log in the how discord for a log review

i mean thast the thing, its barely a impactful change. play rotation properly and you wont feel it at all. bears can do the same thing but better, and granted that should be tuned down as well. no tank should be doing as much spot healing to make a healer irrelevant. cause hpal are only brought to keys this season cause of the huge utility belt they bring with sac being the golden child

You should be able to use WOG freely without mana cost, as do all other tanks with their respective healing abilities. This will be the final time I post here, hope it gets fixed.

every tank has a cost for their respected healing abitilies, vdh soul fragments spb takes alot of fury to cast, blood bdk is proper rune power management, prot warrior is rage usage and proper rotation (i legit cant stress this enough), bear is again a big group heal after a specific amount of rage is consumed (its still strong and the reason why bear is overtuned rn), brew master doesnt heal itself without exploding, prot paladin needing mana to heal is par to the course considering every other tank spec needs a very high resource cost to heal or heals based on their rotational play (if you suck then your not healing as bdk and vdh) itgs legit a non issue

Well, that’s certainly one way to prove you don’t know what you’re talking about…

And paladins have holy power.

There are a few fights right now that I believe to be egregious towards Prot paladins. Both iterations of the Chronolord Deios fight are high magic damage over a short period that puts enormous strain on our mana pools.

Its particularly worrying since we have historically done pretty well into magic oriented tank encounters. Shining Light removing the mana cost as a “free” proc of WoG should will go a long way to addressing our mana issues.

The placement of our Avenger’s Shield synergy talents and WoG synergy talents might warrant another pass from Blizzard tbh.
