Protection paladin nerfs and fixes - I'm very unhappy with the current state

I’ve tested my protection paladin on PTR and I’m unhappy with the following gameplay related issues :

  1. Not enough holy power generation.
  2. Not enough mana to survive alone. My druid tank (C tier) is surviving alone forever against a boss. My prot pally is OOM in like 2-3 minutes and dies to a boss if he’s alone.
  3. Make the abilities generate more threat. This is a serious issue if the DPS is outgearing me and is always dying. This reduces by a lot our fun and is making us leave the dungeon / game.
  4. Make Word of Glory cost only holy power as it was before.

I play paladin because we’re a group of oldies. Our priest healer is 50+ years old and I’m also almost 50 years old, playing as a prot pally most of the time.
If I don’t help my holy priest healer, we cannot complete any M+.

Playing M+ is the only thing left to do in WoW for us. We’re not raiding anymore, since WotLK. I’m too old for PvP - my reflexes are garbage.

The paladin is my main since vanilla and I always loved this class since Warcraft times, for the RPG story and everything. Tanking with a paladin should be about supporting the others.

If you just nerf the damage enough but you keep the survivability, that 4-5% of elite players, hunting for the highest performance, won’t play paladin, so you don’t need to nerf it to the ground. Make it more noob friendly please. New players are also in need of some decent easy classes to play and nobody wants to play tank role anymore.

I want my paladin to be able to survive alone and help others survive too.

This is the class story. We’re a support class.
Now it feels very bad, since I cannot help my healer to heal others and if I heal others I cannot defend myself. Even worse, if I heal just a bit too much I’m out of mana and I die.

Please take into consideration the vast majority of your player base, the casual, older players, who are playing this game for fun. Not all of us are prepping for MDI.

Make the game fun, easier and more interesting. Don’t make it stupidly difficult, to force us quit WoW and go play something else.

Most games now are going for like 4-5 key pressed, maybe using a controller … When playing WoW I need like 20 key binds and I feel like my fingers aren’t enough … I should have like 40 fingers to play wow. High APM, etc. You get my point.

The game is already VERY difficult and NO new player is still playing wow. We had a few newcomers when TWW launched, but because of the high difficulty of the game, they ALL left. None stayed. This says a lot.

Even knowing all this, you still keep nerfing classes and making the game more difficult. All of this to please the MDI players. I don’t have anything against our elite players. We’re all following their example, but none of us will stay. We still have in our guild roster all the 600 players who left wow in the past 15 years. This is the reality of WoW - a long series of poor decisions, forcing players to leave the game.

You cannot improve the bad classes and specs by destroying the classes that are working well. This would be just a very bad design.

No your not a support class you are a tank class.

Your job is to sit there all pretty while taking punchs to the face and still keep going just like it’s mine as a prot warrior we might do it a bit diff but thats our job.

I agree that threat generation is a problem. I often pull aggro from the tank when I’m in Ret, even when I wait for them to make the pull.

What did they change to reduce Holy Power generation? If the answer is nothing then there’s nothing wrong with Holy Power generation.

If you are going OOM then you are playing wrong.

Holy priest is my main spec and it’s been a miserable m+ life since DF. :frowning:

What’s wrong with Holy is that it can’t compete with Disc. Holy is viable in the sense they can get the job done, but not nearly as well as Disc can.

Disc does way more damage and has more external tools to mitigate damage, which means less HPS required. The major downside to Disc is that you need to have a strong understanding of all of the mechanics in order to prep. Once they fall behind it’s a struggle.

Holy has much higher HPS output, but that’s about it. They should definitely look at making the two equally viable.

I don’t think a damage reduction to your DPS and a slightly longer Divine Shield cooldown that you likely didn’t abuse is going to break your spec.

You’re going to be just as tanky as every other tank and still have that same amazing, game changing utility as before.

That and flash heal is basically the tool you use for every damage event, as our AOE in m+ is terrible. Hopefully the rework helps address some of our issues. It’s not that m+ is impossible, it just gives my RSIs a run for their money when I’m mashing the same button so often.

I love Holy for raid healing though, get to use most of the kit.

Except, its not about the design – its about trying to make sure theres no singular “meta” tank where people on other classes are completely shut out.
