Protection Paladin Melee skill weapon?

I play a Retribution Paladin, about all the time. Lots of melee weapon stuff. So, I want to learn the Protection Tank stuff as a bit of a change. I think with the Ret Pally skill set he can stand alone on his own pretty well. Looking at the Protection Pally, shouldn’t he have at least another Melee weapon skill? Besides ‘Auto attack’ he has the ‘Hammer of the Righteous’ key word there is “Hammer”, can however use any melee weapon that is fine of course. Why can’t he additionally have another melee weapon skill, like say Zeal or something that is instant and have no recharge rate? I put away his sword and the only skill that had a problem was Hammer of the Righteous. The rest of the skills were fine with holding only a shield. Magic or “Holy” was fine. Seems to me he should have another skill.

This is one of the weirder things to complain about on these forums, which is saying a lot.

Considering Holy is in a similar situation but, unlike prot, isn’t tuned around having Shield of The Righteous as a damage spender, complaining that non-Ret Paladins don’t really do much actual melee is pretty on brand.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but good holy pallies do use SotR.

I said “damage spender” because it’s primarily a defensive tool. Outside of that, the only other melee attack they have is Crusader Strike which becomes HoTR in Prot. At no point did I say they wouldn’t use it.

Did you have a brain fart switching between forum alts to congratulate yourself on something? I didn’t respond to you…

p.s. SotR is a damage spender for holy. If you’re playing properly and generating HP like you should, you have more HP than you need for healing, which is when you should be using it to “SPEND” hp on SotR.

It’s the same character faction changed. For whatever reason it’s switched on my PC but on my phone it still shows my alliance variant.

And that is such a poor faith argument…if you have to resort to using definitions alone to claim your accuracy, you don’t have an argument. SoTR isn’t used for damage, its used as a HP dump, which is besides the point in either regard.

The point is that neither Prot nor Holy do much in the way of actual melee attacking outside of Auto Attack and Crusader Strike.

This is one of the dumbest statements I’ve ever read on the forums…

But they’re correct, it’s generally not used for dmg as holy. 9 times out of 10 it’s more worth it to fish for awakening procs or more CDR on wings with 4p.
