Prot Warrior Talents Questions

So i’m pretty new to Prot warrior, i’m enjoying it so far but I had some questions on swapping up some talents. Right now i’m using the wowhead Raid Punish build: https://www.wowhead.com/guide/classes/warrior/protection/talent-builds-pve-tank#mountain-thane-builds-punish (Mountain Thane).

I had some general questions about if there is a way to pick up certain talents without causing too many issues:

CLASS TALENTS: (Not much here just some questions)

  • Is bounding strikes necessary? IE: If I wanted to grab another talent?
  • I was looking at second wind/pain and gain? These seem like they would be good?
  • What about overwhelming rage? Seems like have extra rage possibilities would be good?
  • I feel like intervene is so niche, but maybe i’m just bad? Is this talent really worth picking up?
  • Similarly is impending victory really that good either? or worth getting?

Hero Talents: (Just 2 questions on “optional ones” for mountain thane)

  • Gathering clouds seems better? But picked less? Or is it pretty cut and dry that the other talent is better
  • Same question for Steadfast as the Peaks (vs Keep your feet on the ground) or is KYFOTG really better?

SPEC TALENTS (really just 2-3 talents i’d like to get if worthwhile)

  • Is it possible to run “Heavy repercussions” or is the haste just better from into the fray?
  • Impenetrable wall seems better? But maybe not?
  • Is there a way I can pick up “Indomitable”, I like having as much health as possible (Just for class fantasy reasons). I want to be as tanky as possible. What could I drop to get this?
  • I assume there is no viability in Tough as Nails? I assume spell block is just better?

Thanks!

  • U dont need it, but I am addicted to leap and this makes it way better.

  • I am also addicted to second wind, but P&G i could take or leave. Take it if you aren’t geared up.

  • I don’t take it and I don’t notice ever “needing” it.

  • Intervene is amazing, but I won’t lie, I currently don’t take it. It is niche and it isn’t needed, but if you get good with it (i have charge on 4 and intervene on shift+4) you will use it to get around and save homies.

  • I love it, not as useful on a raid boss, but for quality of life, I use it all the time.

  • Thorim’s Might is just rly good.

  • Both these rock, aren’t game changers.

  • I normally go with the haste, but I use the HR if I am someplace tough when I gotta make sure I keep block up 100% of the time.

  • I haven’t rly used IWall, but I will say Aegis is amazing and one of my top 5 talents.

  • According to my buddies damage meter, Tough as Nails might be the worst move in the history of warriors.

Glad you are getting into it. Those are my thoughts about ur questions.

No but it’s a great talent worth taking – it has saved me more than once. What are you planning on taking instead?

Nice to haves but in the big picture don’t do much.

As you get better at managing your rage it has less value but good to give you some wiggle room.

The mobility is huge and there are cases where you can take a mechanic for an ally which is huge. Though you’d have to look up the best use cases for intervene each season/raid.

Absolutely. This is an ok demand 30% max HP heal every 25s. I always take this.

I haven’t simmed mountain thane in a while but I believe gathering clouds is more damage and more rage so it’s just always better.

For keep your feet on the ground vs steadfast, 2% DR vs physical which is most of the damage you take is great.

Once we have enough haste to keep shield block up you can drop heavy repercussions. With our tier set allowing us to shield charge more and benefiting from champion’s bulwark you should be able to take into the fray no problem.

Once you get into hard enough content you have to have a cooldown plan to live. You take the talent that fits your plan the best. But if you aren’t at that level I’d suggest impenetrable wall.

The heal isn’t much any more and you probably aren’t being one shot so dropping it is fine. Max HP doesn’t mean tanky.

Spell block is very strong. But if your cooldown plan doesn’t call for it then you can drop it. I suggest taking it and finding places it is useful because it’s useful a lot!
