Prot warrior rotation question

Hello, I enjoy tanking a lot on my paladin, druid, DH and DK but always struggled on warrior.

I oftentimes feel overwhelmed by the amount of buttons prot warr has and get lost in which one should have priority over which.

should I be spamming ignore pain as much as possible? when should I hit shield block?

it seems even rotation guides dont really go over the defensives… any help would be appreciated.

Depends. For large, difficult packs, hold CDs (ravager, avatar). You should be able to spam IP and keep SB up for ~30s. After that, prioritize IP/spell reflect on caster mobs and shield block on melee mobs. Don’t use revenge unless it’s procced, or to keep deep wounds up. Dragon roar should be up for every pull to get out a shield block and IP. Use defensive CDs liberally (shield wall, last stand).

As a general rule, use Shield Block on cooldown.

Use Ignore Pain if Shield Block is on cooldown. It’s not difficult to manage, both of them are off GCD. Just push them when you have enough rage.

Most of your rage should be going to Shield Block and Ignore Pain. When in doubt, just push Shield Block > Ignore Pain.

Obviously, if you are in a bunch of caster mobs you should prioritize Ignore Pain as Shield Block only affects physical attacks to your front. So if you see a lot of cast bars, use IP.
