Prot Warrior Macro

Hi. I’ve been levelling as a prot warrior and made this macro.

#showtooltip
/cleartarget [dead]
/startattack
/castsequence reset=5 Thunder Clap, Revenge, Revenge, Revenge

Is there any good reason NOT to macro these two abilities together? I always found myself using TC on cooldown (to apply rend,) so I made the macro.

Just checking what people think.

I don’t see the point to this, really. Revenge is only one other button that needs to go on the hotbar and is a button that you should put advance thought into pressing as opposed to using it on a “rotation”. There’s no way you generate anywhere close to enough rage by hitting thunder clap alone.

Prot warriors don’t operate off a traditional rotation. Shield slam is your main ability - top damage, generates the most rage, and resets on a chance from all other abilities used. Thunder clap generates small rage, does AoE and rend - great for AoE but shield slam still takes prio. Revenge is good for AoE and spreading deep wounds but you also need rage for shield block and ignore pain.

But if you TC on cooldown, it dosn’t matter if you don’t use the rage for rampage, because the macro resets?

Or do we not spam TC on cooldown?

There are many good reasons to never use this macro.

  1. You won’t have the rage to sustain this macro.
  2. You need to be selective about when to use revenge.
  3. the reset conditional probably isn’t doing what you think it does based on the macro.

Overall using this macro while leveling will make you a worse prot warrior then if you just learned the class correctly while leveling.

Only true if they’re actually spamming the macro consistently. I assume the multiple revenge casts are there if they wanted to, but likely aren’t spamming it. The reset is there so they can cast TC on cooldown.

True, but having that macro doesn’t mean you have to spam it.

Disagree as the macro doesn’t really change anything. While I wouldn’t recommend it, it isn’t really making you play worse unless you’re actually spamming it on those revenge casts. If so, then yes it’s bad.

The reason not to use this macro is that the reset timer of a castsequence is not triggered from the first cast, but rather the last. This means that if you thunderclap and 4 seconds later decide to press revenge, that 5 second timer starts again, making it so thunderclap won’t show up again until 9 seconds. If you revenge at 4 seconds and then 8 seconds, then thunderclap won’t show back up until 13. If not for that caveat, it probably wouldn’t be that big of a deal to macro these together in this manner.

That’s not how the reset conditional works see the post below you for the explanation. Since it will not work the way you think this macro will generate less rage and spend more. Therefore unsustainable.

Thanks. That was why I asked. Your reply makes it clear to me to me. I have noticed that before.

I had the two keybinds next to each other so it’s not a problem to unlearn!

You’re absolutely correct, my error. Carry on.

Prot has rampage?

He clearly meant revenge.
