Do I need to level a prot warrior now ?

Just got back after 6 months and leveled my prot Paladin.

How heavy are the nerfs.

I pug a lot so Paladin was the safest best but with the magic damage reduction on warrior now. What do you think ?

If you’re casual, roll what’s most comfortable to tank with. None of us should have any issues up to the max vault reward anyway. If you’re serious, VDH is ----> that way.

What is casual ? I am just not caught up.

I have all the keystone achieves in the past.

If you’re just chasing ksm/ksh, you can do that casually. You’re good on pally.

Magic damage reduction isn’t really a buff, just balancing something we were already bad at.

This expansion I would like to try and get into more raiding atleast 1 mythic.

I only do keys, keys and keys. That is what burnt me out last few season ago.

Would prot still be viable. I know prot paladin scales better deep into the season.

And my main concern is pugs. Prot warrior is heavy on pugs due to lack of utility but this magic damage buff is looking interesting.

Another concern of mine is due to IRL I cannot play 2 heroes.

Not sure how to approach this. Probably have to watch for some guides on these new updates.

I was really looking forwards to Paladin

I might finish lvling my warrior. I thought it was pretty slow to kill stuff as prot

I got KSH (ended with 2.7kio rating) for s3 of DF when prot warr was considered an “undesirable” tank.

Imo, prot warr is super fun to play, just something about it calls to me. I would say my only complaint is that they can be too healer reliant. Since they only have one self-heal on a 25sec CD, if you mess up your rotation, you’re at the mercy of your healer.

That being said, prot warr is totally viable in all content. One thing I have noticed tho, whenever I pull my healer out, is that you either get really good or really bad prot warriors. There doesn’t seem to be an in-between. I’ve had people tell me outright that they were nervous accepting a prot warr into their key group but ended up pleasantly surprised (mind you, these were +20s). Does it lack utility compared to other tanks? Sure, but I think with the upcoming changes to m+ it shouldn’t be too much of an issue.

I can’t say much for prot pally as I don’t enjoy playing it, but I know it has a lot of group utility.

Edit: a word

Ran a quick chat got analysis. Will dig deeper once I get home.
