Prot Warrior 11.1 PTR Feedback

I value this feedback thanks!

Saddened that you backed down on your intial design, but fully expected it. APM has NEVER been this high in the game’s history and it’s ridiculous at this point.

Hello,

Straight out ignoring some of the feedback here:

Why is prot war APM targeted, while other classes, even classes higher than ours, are not touched? This is illogical.

Where is an improvement to our utility?

Why make the spec less fun?

Gah, I am beyond frustrated by the complete lack of comprehension and stubbornness displayed by the development team. So many good ideas and comments just flat-out ignored.

I wish we had all the data, but it is weird indeed. Looking at some of the top player logs for each spec on similar dungeons: Guardian Druid had higher APM (>20%), and Prot Paladin has slightly higher APM (<10%). If APM really was the issue, you would think they would have started at the top.

Correction: I misread logs on VDH as there were a few incorrect skills being counted. VDH should not be included on this list. Guardian and Prot Paladin do have higher CPM’s from the top logs from people like Squishvegan and Yoda.

Play a different class.

Class devs acknowledging they were wrong? What world are we living in?

Care to enlighten us as to why the even higher APM prot paladin is not a concern while prot warrior is? Take your time.

This is simply not true. Prot warriors are the highest for tanks. Warriors were up there with Outlaw Rogues and a few others. Bears were on the list, but significantly down from warriors. Bears could compete with Warriors, but our rage income in nowhere near what a warrior’s is(was).

VDH and Prot Pally aren’t even remotely close.

As much as their changes were foolish, don’t lie to try to throw the scent off your spec.

Prot Pally is only higher on lucky streaks of their NEW tier set on trash packs on the PTR.

They press SotR nowhere near as often as you press ignore pain.

This is simply true. Templar is 87 APM. Lightsmith is 82. Prot Warrior Thane is 84. Guardian is not that far behind at 81. If you’re going to try to sound smart at least look it up. Data available on Bloodmallet

ok… not allowing me to link what i’ve linked before. scroll up and look at proof of apm.

Thank you for your hard work on tuning Protection Warrior. This is my favorite tank spec so far (Prot. Paladin comes close second) and for next season I already decided to main another tank to keep gameplay refreshing on my end (did this decision even before Siren Isle update). I feel like giving one final comment on what you’ve said:

As much as I consider Protection Warrior a clunky spec (much of the reason is due to its tied mechanics with the first editions of WoW), I felt that high APM glued everything into a satisfying gameplay, and I had so much fun smashing my keyboard by pressing all the skills available, usually averaging between 380 to 400 apm per key. Its understandable that some players find it tiresome, specially because pretty much every other spec and most DPS specs require half the effort for peak performance. Regardless, this is how I had my fun - I didn’t particularly fancied doing stragegic runs with prot warrior, instead I thrived in playing chaotically, always changing time signatures between 4/4, 3/2, 5/4, 7/4,…, playing notes and ghost notes between all those charges and leaps. What sounds like chants for the people of Orgrimmar, my foes wander disrupted; when all hope seemed lost, my DPS player would yell FOR THE HORDE and I clap the ground with all my might - the reverberated echoes so intense it sounded like thunder! In moments of silence…. when my healer thought it was time to sit and refresh their stomachs with mana bums, I would restart all over with a mighty shield charge, YELLING LOK’TAR OGAR!!!

Maybe we are wrong and High APM must be addressed, I shall not argue against anymore but be thankful for the funny keys I had with it. As I shall tank with another spec next season, I wish all current HORDE Warriors the very best and hope that in the end, S2 will be kind for you!

Hey Kaivax!

Massive W here, thank you very much! We’d prefer 30% obv but I agree, I think this is a good middle ground especially considering bloodsurge got buffed and was bugged on PTR. Excited to test this next week and make sure it feels good in single target

First, Bloodmallet is a worthless site, just go to Simcraft for that.
Second, Prot Pallies are playing Lightsmith, so Prot Warriors are still at the top for tanks
Third, Simcraft is rarely ever REMOTELY close to accurate.

If you’re going to try to correct people, use real data, not made up lists that may as well be from Noxxic.

This really has nothing to do with “APM” and more to do with feel and prot having a lot of dead globals where you just press nothing.

Following the logic:
Tell someone go to Simcraft->Admit Simcraft is rarely ever remotely accurate

Meanwhile, calling people liars based on your “rarely ever remotely accurate” data. You make too strong a case and are too smart. I concede!

While you’re walking back this nerf partially could you peeps also look at reverting Colossal Might back to allowing Execute to provide a Colossal Might stack again?

It’s made the difference between Colossus and Slayer with this change for Arms even larger than live where they’re somewhat close together and well balanced, your stated reasons for the adjustment too don’t make sense because Arms always hit MS on CD in the execute phase and Prot never spammed execute without recourse because they’re unable to and are required to Shield Slam/Thunderclap whenever they’re up to even have the rage to use execute.

What is sad (I know Kaivax is only the messenger) is that there is all this great feed back and suggestions in this thread, but I feel like in classic Blizzard dev fashion the developers are going to dig in their heels and tell us to kick rocks…

why are only warriors getting changes due to their APM when other tanks are roughly similar.

is the warrior dev a geriatric classic andy that hates silly things like talent interactions? this is the same lazy “fix” that they did with arms and ignore pain in 10.2.

i am willing to try it out only because there has been a morsel of feedback about it, but the reasoning is flimsy at best.

Wrong.

Even people not playing m+ does like to play it +right+.
So your argument the 2. time is nonsense sorry.

And playing more slowly is welcomed!

Sadly they reverse now some of the less APM changes.

They could do it for ALL tanks+ all classes.

WOW is no action h&s if you want that gameplay, go play these games.
An MMO should always be a bit slower and more thoughtful before you spam XYZ.
Learn to accept that pal
