Prot Warr Viability For Casual PVE Content

Hi all, so I’m trying to figure out if I want to spend time being a prot warr. I used to warrior tank in LK which was the last time I played.

My Biggest question is if prot warriors are getting turned down for normal raids and low keys (I have no context for how hard a given key is, but since 15 seems to be a benchmark, I’d guess I’ll top out at around 10).

I have neither the time nor the desire to push through super hard content, but I want to at least not be a burden for those around me if I tank at the level I’ve described. I am able to learn mechanics/not stand in circles and can learn the class, but I don’t want to go super hard.

Any thoughts are appreciated, thanks!

Unless you are mythic raiding, or pushing keys over 20 you should have no issues.

Thanks for responding!

That’s what I was hoping for, though one clarification - Do you have experience with people filtering warrs out even in like M0?

I’m sure it happens to an extent because people take IcyVeins as gospel, I’m just curious if you’ve seen/heard of it happening to the extent where it becomes an issue with finding groups at all.

Nah, people are desperate for tanks, lol

Only if you’re wearing the worst possible gear and/or have zero experience, but even then you’ll still find groups because, well, people don’t want to sit there for 20 minutes waiting for a tank.

I’m getting sick and tired of this meta crazed community with a twisted view of prot warrior… …we are viable in ALL Content and even excel in certain areas.

The problem is people bring the class and not the player…let ME show you how viable prot Is in any 15

This 100%

Granted I’m only really doing 10-12’s right now on my baby Warrior (no tier, 245 ilvl), and i’m usually beating 1 or 2 DPS for overall damage, and keeping up with the healer for overall healing (not as much, but pretty damn close).

I still get declined so people aren’t that desperate, especially if it’s the healer that’s the party leader. Only solace I have is canceling on them before they cancel on me or take to long with the invite. If I ain’t their first pick I ain’t gonna be last pick either lol.

I do the same thing. If it takes you over a minute to accept, then I am out.
More on topic though a guildie and I sat in a +5 timewalking que for twenty minutes yesterday waiting on a tank…we finally picked up a Prot Warrior and they were great. Right after we qued for a +2 timewalk and had another Warrior tank it. I know these are low keys but these tanks were outstanding. Made me want to get my warrior off the shelf and go tank. Just not sure I want to run around ZM as Prot.

What are you queuing u for? There are so many applicants for 15’s, that if you are sub 2500 at this point you will most likely get left in the dark automatically. The good news is It’s not because you play prot warrior.

Yea it feels like if your score is not in purple that’s the purpose of your decline…

Sub 2500? Timing tazavesh 15 isn’t that easy with pugs. I don’t see alot of 2500+ in group finder…

By no means am I saying you aren’t skilled or qualified enough with your current score, HOWEVER, unfortunately it is a bit early in the season, and there are many many applicants, a lot of them with bigger scores either on alts or mains looking for weekly vault keys and other peoples 15’s is where a lot of players like to poach. You can test it with your own key. Que it up and wait a few minutes. You will see a ton of overqualified players, making it difficult for those trying to progress, as people will usually select the “sure thing” over the “he needs it for score” guy.

Makes sense

It’s usually the “need it for score” guy that tends to play a bit better and a bit harder because he NEEDS it and has something to prove :stuck_out_tongue:

If I am pugging a 5th for a weekly key I always take someone who needs it for score. They generally always play well, and are super grateful at the end.
