I got my KSH a week or two back. I started rolling other toons but i like prot war too much.
I dont have the work schedule to raid, and with being done with m+ (i dont see a point of getting any more points past 2500 tbh), so the next pillar is PvP.
I cant find any prot guides. Is this viable in any way shape or form?
Arenas?
Rated bg?
Only good for randoms?
There are no Protection Warriors who have attained 2400 rating. There are only 7 that have reached 1800. Arms Warriors, there are 31 over 3000 rating, hundreds over 2400, and an uncountable horde over 1800.
So its in the realm of possible to get to 1800, but unrealistic. Only a true believer would consider that viable.
SS is also the hardest location to play Protection Warrior as it’s primary IWIN button is its ability to guard another DPS and take 50% of the damage. That requires melee range with your partner and will drop if you get out of range. With the way people run around like chickens with no heads, RSS is not a good choice for Protection.
MORE EDIT:
One thing about playing Arms is that you do play defensively and helping your team a lot more than other DPS, so you might find Arms enough protection. Intervene, Rallying Cry, Disarming Rogues, always disarm rogues.
I deleted my characters and quit couple weeks ago. Retail has been bad for nearly 7 years now. Time to just move on. DF is just SL 2.0 it’s trash just like the previous expansions.
I rather putz around in D2R or my other main MMO. Maybe if the Devs actually listen and make major changes, Retail can be saved some day.
The last time I truly enjoyed WoW was in WoD. So yea, I deleted my main Prot War with 1 year in game time. It’s just not WoW anymore and hasn’t been for many expansions. Like most I try to salvage what I can each expansion and find “something” that is fun. It’s just very short lived because the core design of the game is so soooooo far off from where it needs to be.
That’s why the average sub is 1-3 months a year. We try it, realize it’s trash and play other games. DF didn’t break this cycle. Sorry but the current Dev and leadership at Blizz isn’t going to release a good expansion. Need a new team or old team that knows how to make an MMO.
Hahahahahahaha yeah right.
But seriously though, dont play prot in pvp.
Damage is very low, you cant put enough pressure to make enemy use any cds. From my experience every tank spec now in arenas are trash. They can stay alive longer but can be completely ignored because their damage is trash.
Maybe there is a place for tanks in flag carrying rated battlegrounds, but other than that I cant see tanks ever succeeding.
I did prot for my RBGs and was good at FC for it. Very good at soaking up damage, especially if you have a pocket heals on you, then you are just an unstoppable force. I did mainly prot and sometimes fury. Was only ever support as prot. Not the damage dealer, just the damage soaker where you can take lots of dmg a massive beating and that + a good pocket heals ( I had a irl friend who was a priest) then you are off well. Sometimes I had two pocket heals with my prot, disc+ resto sham. They would stick by me so if I died and dropped the flag, the sham could grab and cap it with ease.
In arenas I never have done prot war. Just not very viable from my experience or perhaps I am just not a good enough prot to do arenas with it.
Random BGs I think that the monk tank is actually better as it has much more mobility, as well as better self heals than a warrior does.
And yes, you getting KSH in PvE does not equate to you being able to do any good in PvP.
I have seen dozens of multiglads who cant down a full KSM as I have seen many multi KSH and CE runners who cant break past 1.8k rating in any bracket of PvP.
Those that do excel in both, train and practice at both. Being good at one will not make you good at the other unless you know that other playstyle just as well.
Prot wars though. Kinda wouldnt recommend that for arenas all that much.
But I love prot in RBGs. very good at it. Lots of people will seek out a good prot for RBGs. You seem like you have the potential to be a good one, so yea I would go for it.
You’ll be great support in prot. But your not going to be running the show until you switch over to whatever DPS is currently best for that season, be it arms or fury.
WoD had Gladiator Stance which if prot pvp, or Prot War in general, is what is fun for you that would explain why he would prefer that version of WoW, and how it handled his class, over the current, even if the current game as a whole is better than WoD.
