Prot War or Pld?

I am very new to tanking and was wondering now that all tunings and stuff took place, what’s easier to run things? i feel like my paladin with 640 ilvl gets demolished in +3 by add packs while my WAR has a slightly easier time at 620 ilvl. Am i missing something or is this a skill issue or what?

Thanks!

Skill issue. At that ilvl you should have no issues on a +2/3. Just keep your defensives rolling

I was tanking 3s at 626 with minimal issues. Chances are you are dropping your defensives too much yeah, make sure you have SotR up near constantly and WoG only when you have shining light or when you absolutely need to because if you wog too muxh you enter a vicious cycle of having to WoG more to love and being unable to use Sotr without dying. make sure conscration is up 24-7 and never ever overlap your defensives unless you know you will die without (which is rare, as one defensive is usually enough for yourself and a healer to keep you up). You want to cycle through them, and don’t just use divine shield as an oh (blizzard censored it) button, you can weave that in as a normal defensive

Prot pal any day, mate. The higher you climb, the less brown and the more pink you see. That should say enough. At range 12s, you rarely see anything that’s not pink or purple. At 13s, brown is almost extinct.
Dungeons are plagued with dots and magic dmg. It’s definitely not fun to deal with them as prot war.

thats also a skill issue

how skilled you are to comment others about “skill issue” ? You need at least 1k rio more to talk to me about skill issue.

warcraft logs showing prot warriors having no issues in 15-14 level keys which is currently the highest level as of right now

talking to nome and gilik about prot warrior and seeing both of them (both within the top 10 of prot warrios doing keys rn with gili being no1 in multiple dungeons) laughing at the idea of magic remotely being a threat

kinda speaks for itself. this ultimately reads that your salty prot paladin was meta last season and uysing it as a crutch for your own rotational failures

warcraft logs also say m+ is dominated by prot pally and vdh.

warcraftlogs also shows prot warrior can do a cinderbrew 15 while prot pally is stuck in 14 cinderbrew

a spec being more popular doesnt always means its better, it just means its probably easier to perform in that spec or people dont know how strong other specs are and dont bother to change/learn it

which ultimately agains loops back to the main truth

just saying, I did only 12s. And I am already top 10 prot war in NA at the moment. That should be enough to show how garbage prot war is

all tanks can do somewhat simliar content if played well. the only tanks i think need help is brew and bear

that only tells me that you are stopping at 12 and not doing higher content. that could be due to skill issue, a lack of a team, or many other factors

this doesnt mean prot warrior is garbage.

especially if you find magic damage to be a issue while these other players dont even consider it a stopping factor for prot

That means no good tanks are interested in pushing on warriors because prot war is downbad. That leads to the small population of prot wars and just 12s would bring you to top 10.

if you think gilik nome or literally anyone of note isnt a good tank then thats a you issue

ill be real with you. nome is a better tank player than yoda, im tired of people pointing at io as a level of skill when yoda actively tells people to playe vdh without a talent that makes your 40% wall a uncapped 30% damage amp/ aoe 40% wall

ultimately prot warrior is a good tank and it has its strengths and cons over prot paladin

prot paladin and vdh are the only victors cause they have like 798172817187 aoe stops that let dps players go unga boonga numbers on details./ not becuase they are “better”

Good heavens what did I come back to

I am not discussing about prot war’s potentials here. I was talking with the OP about what class he should choose for more advantages. Some dude pushing 15 doesn’t make the class is great. Equinox can’t save brews or squishvegan can’t save bears. The better class you play, the easier time you have in m+, assuming you can play classes equally.
Also you sound like a jerk for jumping right into others’ mouth with “skill issue” when you don’t even have skills to debate from the beginning.

then at least tell op correct info instead of making a rage circle post saying “prot warrior cant deal with magic like prot paladin can” when its clearly not true.

giving bad info doesnt help anyone, it just makes community perception about specific specs worse for no reason

A good majority of players probably won’t be touching keys over 11 anyway

then frankly you can play any tank and succeed

I agree. However, if you play the better class (again, assuming you play classes equally), you would have easier time, not only because people will prefer inviting you, but also better class has more power than the worse ones.

Thank you all very much for the input! Last night my pally did a 4 with relative ease, which certainly was a confidence boost.

I do think paladin’s 7 or so mitigation buttons with a 4 sec SotR is a stupid design. War you just ignore pain and shield block. Occasionally popping spell reflect or shield wall. Still i find stacking, movement and interrupts better on PLD.
