Hello! Returning player for 8.3, I usually play a DPS, but am not enjoying all the RNG currently tied to the job, and want to reroll to a tanking class. However I am having difficulty deciding on what class I should play. Top 2 contenders are Prot pally, or warrior (sorry DK, DH, and Monk I like my tanks with a huge shield and full plate)
Just want a general comparison, pros, cons ect. Thanks for the help!
I’ve been enjoying Prot Pally but I have no experience with Prot Warrior so it’s a toss up. I know warrior is busted in M+ right now so if busted is what you’re looking for there ya go.
If you’re just doing casual content, I’d pick whatever looks and feels the coolest!
If I was choosing between war vs. pally, I’d go pally personally. I like the utility of being able to perform all 3 roles: tank, heals, dps. I also like pally “looks” more - armor and abilities.
Those are just my personal opinions, so it may not help much lol.
i like warrior tanks myself, but actually being able to pvp as a prot spec is crazy right now, untill seeing this anytime i saw a prot pally in pvp i just rolled my eyes, but they can delete you right now
I personally like warrior more, too many paladins and also paladin is broken class…
I think you should watch guides for each and then decide .
Or if you do have 110 boost try it out, or ask a friend to let you try it out.
Arms
Fury
Also if you check ranks of 2,3v PVP ranks , Alliance owns it all with Arms warriors. Fury is not much of arena PVP spec now , but you can just swap spec not big deal.
You will also see paladins on top of the rank, If I am not wrong there is one Arms warrior who is in TOP 5 2v arena all the time, holds 1 st place most of the time, I check each month. Paladins usually win against warriors because ( arms doesn’t have any self healing at all ) Fury can win but the shields paladin casts makes it hard for Fury to heal, but in SL we get throw back to take bubble off
I just don’t find anything in 8.3 to be fun in general, but that may just be me. That is regardless of class/spec being played as well. I pulled these off of Icy Veins, it’ll steer you in the right direction but I wouldn’t put 100% trust in it either.
Protection Warrior’s Strengths
Excels in situations with high amounts of physical/blockable damage.
Smooth damage intake.
Has high mobility with [Intercept] and [Heroic Leap]
Decent raid and dungeon utility in [Rallying Cry], [Battle Shout], [Shockwave], [Spell Reflection], [Intimidating Shout]
Extremely high AoE damage output.
Protection Warrior’s Weaknesses
More unforgiving of mistakes or improper play compared to other tanks.
Weaker self-sustain compared to some other tank specs. This is only an issue in certain niche situations.
Has some difficulty against magical/non-blockable damage.
Lacks impactful crowd control (“mob displacement”) dungeon utility when compared to other tank specs.
