how am i supposed to keep aggro of mobs?
to clarify: i don’t tank really (closest i do is follower dungeons), and i don’t understand how prot pallies are supposed to keep aggro. like, on my monk i just douse everything with booze and fire, which the constant little tick of damage it does keeps mobs aggro’d onto me.
but i’m trying to do a follower dungeon on my pally, and i keep losing aggro. i have all these buttons to do attacks, but nothing to keep mobs focus’d on me. so… how am i supposed to keep their focus?
Hand of Reckoning is off the GCD just macro that baby to everything you do.

really? i thought that was the ‘oh crap, i lost one!’ ability, for incase one of the mobs gets away.
besides, i’m pretty sure that won’t keep the big groups of mobs i aggro attacking me… i aggro’em, and they just all wander-off to attack the rest of the group, it’s ridiculous.
Paladins are pumpers. You’ve got to keep pumping holy power non-stop and consume it as fast as you can pump and dump it.
Secondly… Paladins are healers. Healing is a BIG CHUNK of your threat now.
My tree isn’t Icy Veins quality but take a look at it for an example of a build designed to “Process Holy Power” and pump out AOE DPS/Healing to the point threat is not a problem.

Shield of the righteous is your biggest threat generator. If you are struggling with threat, generate 3 chargers with Blessed Hammer before each pull so you can open with SotR. Try to pull with Shield whenever you can so the splash damage gives you extra threat and of course, always stay on top of your consecration, without it, you are literally made out of paper, while the consecration damage ticks help you ever so slightly to generate more threat.

hmm… sounds like i was doing everything right then… but the npc-companions kept on getting aggro anyway for some reason… was mostly the mage, but the hunter did as well, jumpin-around like a fool the whole time.
A dps meter would tell you if they’re taunting off you or out-damaging your threat.
I don’t know, maybe follower dungeons are just wonky, Prot Pal doesn’t really struggle with aggro management in multiplayer, thankfully.
By the way, are you prioritizing Judgment instead of BH? It deals way more damage and you basically get a charge back whenever you proc Grand Crusader, so it should be your main filler. BH is only really useful because it allows you open with SotR and the extra charge helps you with SotR uptime, otherwise, the damage is dog.
try visiting the paladin discord
discord was handed over to the feds in march. dead platform only McCorps use now.
uh… can’t remember. i just logged off, so gimmie a moment or two to log back in, and i’ll let you know (i can’t even remember what BH stands for when not online).
It’s Blessed Hammer, the spinny ones.
Blessed hammer may seem derpy but it is the superior builder. You can spam it out of combat to trigger Word of Glory.
The 1 downside to Blessed Hammer is sometimes it will pull things you wish you didn’t.
oh! well, uh… i swapped that out for hammer of the righteous. as i said, i don’t really tank, plus i find the spinning hammers annoying. like, they don’t feel impactful and they always aggro stuff i’m not ready to fight at the moment.
mostly, i prioritize avenger’s shield. it’s always seemed to be the main ‘aggro everything’ ability prot pallies spam.
If you like Hammer of Righteous then go Lightsmith. Less burst but your average threat will be much higher.
Yeah, I know what you mean, it is a really dumb looking spell that feels terrible to press, but unfortunately it’s mandatory for higher level dungeon content, as I said before, building SotR preemptively and having an extra charge really makes a difference in M+. Hammer of the Righteous is only really worthwhile in Raids because of that.

Consecrate is your rot damage ability to keep damage ticks on stuff. Standing in it also heals you a bit and decreases damage you take depending on talents. Hammer hits in a wave so long as you are in consecrate as well so if you are having aggro issues make sure consecrate is always down and you are standing in it.

But with Divine Guidance in Lightsmith… Consecrate becomes a massive BURST spell once you learn to stack it properly. Buffed Hammer of Righteous hits for 100k every 7 seconds… or… 1.6 mil every 14 seconds with buffed Consecrate. The choice is yours.
Just panic bubble and they’ll aggro
your group will agro you also.
