Some days ago I decided to try tanking with a Paladin. Ended up using the Lightforged (Male) Paladin and wow.
Even if I sometimes mess up with Light of the Protector, it really is fun.
I have one question, though: When you use Avenging Wrath, the next Light of the Protector will Critically strike even after the buff fades or just while the buff is on? Because I’ve been using AW on every boss at full health.

Even after the buff fades. They are getting significant changes in shadowlands unfortunately that do not look good for the spec as whole.

I’m sad. I’ve just started playing with a protection paladin again and really enjoying it.

Play your heart out before they give us holy power for no reason

As I still have not beta tested yet I’m staying reserved.
Prot Pally at the end of the expansion is a joy normally, triple threat as I can heal, tank and dps with the group and top the meters for everything basically.
I’ll cry if we get nerfed/changed too much.

I wonder why. We already have tanks with spenders like DK or Guardian. Not all classes should with the same engine.
Wrath was a magnificent time to be a Paladin.

Johad, I’ve been playing Prot a lot in Beta and it’s even more fun in SL. Yes, they need to tweak a few things with Holy Power, give it time. You’ll see more uptime with SotR and one of the lego’s, Holy Avenger’s Engraved Sigil is like playing ping pong with shields. They are also doing way better self-healing, it’s crazy!
I only wish I could say the same for Holy. It needs help atm.

This comment made my weekend!

Hopefully this overcomes how much I dislike hp
Huh? Everything they have changed about Prot Pally makes the spec better. Prot Pally on beta at 9% haste feels better than my Prot Pally on live with 50% haste.
Are they not giving them holy power?
They are, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’ll just come down to tuning.
From what i’ve seen it looks pretty good. Some cool Legos, great self healing, better uptime on mitigation. Just needs some tweaking.
Warrior tanks need a lot of love… like a TON of love. But Paladins are looking pretty swish and just need a couple knobs turned and they’ll be in good shape.
Guess I’ll find out, I’ve only heard negative things. Thanks for the info.
What are you talking about? Just about everyone who has tested a Prot Paladin in Shadowlands says it is amazing and likely the FOTM tank.
On a somewhat related note, I have heard from people in beta that Ret Paladin is really fun as well, meanwhile people on the forums here for some reason seem to hate it.
I’m convinced it’s going to be fun, but I genuinely have trouble understanding why people think it will be bad.
Yah it looks like they took what worked well in BFA, and then baselined a ton of abilities that we chose as talents anyways, and then gave new talents that are actually interesting. I don’t see why people would hate it i’m super stoked for SL ret.

One of the major criticisms I’ve seen that I do understand is Retribution Aura coming back. People don’t seem to like it. I think it adds more variety in how one plays their Paladin, since it’s going to take effort to swap your auras around at the right times. Beyond that I really don’t understand how people could be upset by Ret as a whole.
Wake of Ashes is baseline. Word of Glory is baseline. Hammer of Wrath is baseline. Shield of the Righteous is baseline. There is a lot more to work with just from abilities being made baseline, on top of the new talents. I am truly stoked and it makes the wait more painful lmao.

Giving holy power back is a great change to the class. The charge system for SotR was awful, especially with Seraphim. You could never get close to 100% uptime on SotR in BFA, however in SL beta we are already really close to 100% uptime, even with very low haste. Also in raid, the holy power system allows Prot Pally to be a legit offhealer by spending all holy power on WoG.
