Prot Paladin Rising up

I’m not a prot pal/tank main player, but feels like Prot Paladin is rapidly rising up as the new meta tank or at least to take a seat next Prot war and above Bear.

What changed this patch and how are ppal mains feeling about the changes?

Take the seat? Unlikely, they still have massive mitigation and higher HP pools compared to us.

But being useful feels nice.

Check the top 100 mythic runs this week. Prot Paladin not only closing the gap over Prot War, its actually the majority in the best runs in the world. But they appear to be pretty close in representation in keys above 13 if we compared to prot War.

Still, I didn’t expect that sudden shift either and who knows if it will remain this way.
Great comeback so far!

I’d still like more HP though.

But good.

Prot pally can do way more damage than prot war by a large margin. Blizz will probably nerf

in pugs prot warrior is so much better to invite. ask any healer its not even close.

In an organized setting prot pal is now the meta… thats just the way it is.,

They baked in damage, mitigation, and CD reduction and allowed us to use those talent points on other/new talents.

It’s hilarious because for weeks leading up to the patch I was saying how we were going to be tankier and people kept trying to dog pile on me saying I was wrong.

Warrior tends to do better early expansion, but we do better later on. The current changes are definitely not enough to make us meta, but it did make a noticeable difference.

I’ve been playing with a Prot Pal in groups as Hpal both with LS and the control we have over the whole group HP is insane.

LoHx2. Holy Bulwarkx2. Tempered in battlex2. Aura Mastery/Spellwarding. Sacx2

It’s really really good

I mean really though it’s just the 1 new talent making prot good again…

No, they baked in stuff and buffed damage and healing on top too.

Class tree rework helps for sure.

In my view, Prot pal still have urgent design issues, they just tuned everything up, they put a band-aid on it, nothing more.

Yeah but tempered is 1 talent point that is literally a 30% or more HPS boost depending on content/procs. It is the only thing carrying prot right now. If they decide to nerf/alter it prot could be right back in the dumpster.

On a side note- it makes you wonder how prot made it to live before when that big of a boost was needed…

Exactly. I still avoid prot pallies because i look and they are taking 500k damage per second. Cant have that liability in a pug where im not sure who ill have to babysit

Prot Pal does far more damage than the other tanks, and more damage means less dungeon to fight.

We still have defensive issues (Less now thanks to 1 pt uther’s council) that need to be addressed sooner rather than later.

That’s not true at all and it only accounts for 10% HPS. There were a lot more other impactful changes than that.

Prot feels like it’s in a good spot. High damage output, interrupts galore, good off healing with hand of the protector, and overall better passive mitigation. I just started doing +12s on my Paly and they’re completely doable.

Biggest thing through is you can reset bubble in 1.5-2 minutes.

Prot pally def feels real good nowadays.

Divine shield is so godly for large pulls.
Avenging wrath pulling 6 mil DPS.
Less reliant on healer with 700k HPS overall in M+.
Ranged silence to grab caster mobs without needing DK.

Kinda stopped playing my prot warrior because pally is a lot more capable.

Paladins were dog poop until the resent round of buffs.

The reason they are rising is because of their patch buffs. Their dps is far better then most the other tanks, and their utility is amazing.

If it’s a straight up mitigation game then warriors win out currently, but the fact that dps plays an important role paladins will naturally take over

I wouldn’t say they were dog poop. It benefited from the buffs for sure, but we were still able to do the content on all difficulty levels that had rewards. Even pre-buff, we were still ahead of Brewmaster.

Oh for sure, there’s no argument that Warriors have superior mitigation right now.

Yeah, I mean I was one of the only people arguing that the patch was going to be a net-positive for us with so many people trying to claim it was not going to do anything or make it worse.

Nerf coming for ret and prot damage dupe bugs.

Prot felt awful before the update. I felt like a sponge, my defensives reset slower then they do now so there were gaps where I had no defensives, and WoG barely moved my healthbar.

Now? I can breeze through a +12 Siege without feeling overly threatened when post-update doing a +10 Siege felt like a rollercoaster.
