Prot paladin pvp buffs ? when is it coming

Prot paladin has yet to be fixed in pvp, alot of the new changes messed up prot in pvp and some of the old pvp nerfs to prot should not apply anymore, for exemple the 80% nerf on hand of the protector so that you heal you allies for 100% more based on missing health instead of the 250%, but since its now 100% and not 250% is 20% healing increase which means its worthless.

Don’t pvp as a tank spec, problem solved.

Telling someone not to play a spec that needs help isnt the answer. I’ll still never understand why WoW community is soo toxic to tanks… literally a vital role in pvp in every other MMO… Should be the same in WoW (Especially in RBGs)

Yes, it is. The actual game developers have clearly stated they don’t want tanks performing well in arenas, which is why anytime one gets powerful due to some overlooked change impacting a tank in pvp it is nerfed into the ground.

Yeah this is an issue with the game devs alienating a large group of their players instead of creating a desired role for them in PvP. Although I’m more concerned with RBGs than Arenas personally. There’s zero reason to bring tanks into RBGs right now othe rthan Guardian druids for FCing. Thats my biggest issue.

Situation is more complicated than it appears at face value.
There are a couple of things we need to acknowledged first and foremost.

  • WoW is mainly a PVE game, an overwhelming majority of the content they create is oriented solely at PVE
  • WoW is an old game with old/simpler mechanics

What is the role of the tank in PVE?
It serves as a focusing point for damage being dealt to the party by NPCs.
Everything they do is meant to get the NPC attention and mitigates the damages being dealt to them.
It is important to notices here that they don’t accomplish this role through having abilities that physically prevents the NPC to get to their party and their overall position rarely matters as to who’s getting hit.
(Mostly, we do have some abilities in game like Ring of peace and DK slappy hands and some stationnary bosses will slap the closest target)

It’s purely based on how much damage they deal to get their attention.
Goes back to the second point*

Now PVP ignores that completely…

So the game-mode itself is inherently incompatible to their PVE role and all the tools they have to accomplish it.
Goes back to the first point*

To make them relevant in PVP, they need a role but WoW has been built in such a way that it doesn’t have the tools now to implement them into PVP in a healthy way.

For example, WoW doesn’t really do “skill shots” abilities which is often a predominant aspect of most PVP games.
The closest thing we got in WoW are AoE spells you can target on the ground, everything else is just automatically targeted as long as you have LoS.

It might sound silly but take LoL for example, those skill shot can be intercepted by the tank by body blocking.
It’s not something you can do in WoW.
The closes thing we got is Warrior intervene and it doesn’t really work the same mechanically.

So then it comes down to how much resources they want to put on a secondary game-mode, to redesign tank role in PVP, in a context where the game they have in hands prevents them from using mechanics that are common in other games.

Considering that changing those mechanics would imply also changing them in PVE, I just don’t see them doing it…

So instead, it’s much simpler and less costly for them to just not let Tank be relevant in PVP at all…

EDIT: It’s funny how you identified the same problem as I was writing this :stuck_out_tongue:

There’s plenty of abilities that tanks have (mainly in pvp talents) that give the tanks the ability to tank for their party in pvp but they are just sooo undertuned that they arent noticable. As you mentioned, interevene is a good one but even larger ones like back in WoD when Brewmasters were able to constantly apply Guard to their nearest ally which was a fat shield. Prot Warriors could/can use mass spell deflection to bounce enemy spells off their teamates and hits their enemies instead. I also think Tanks should have a majority of the heavy CC instead of the DPS to make the tanks more desirable as well.

It seems tanks really only get nerfed if they fill too much of another role (they heal too much or they do too much dps, which is fine to prevent), but I dont think it’s too late for Blizz to create a more defined role for tanks in the current/future pvp meta. A role of mitigating party damage and providing disruption/cc.

I also really miss Glad stance with warriors being able to do dps with sword and board and forgo their tankiness. I love dpsing with sword and board aesthetically…

I’d be really surprised if they do for the reasons I mentioned above.
Idk that they have the necessary design space given what they have to work with mechanically but that could just be me lacking imagination.

Overall I think they are kind of limited by the homogenization of classes and the fact that its an old MMO game.

MOBA have like 5-6 roles (Tank, Brawler, Caster, Assassin, Marksman, Support) while WoW has 3.
MOBA have an easier time being more specialized too because they only have 4 abilities which makes it easier to have more champions that do different things and sticking to their roles.

WoW PVP is like a mix of MOBA and Shooters but without what makes either of those game genre good at what they do PVP wise.

Frankly, WoW PVP should be its own game but I don’t believe we’ll see that happen.
They would be cannibalizing their own game to create a Blizzard version of Smite which is awfully close to a project that didn’t really got off the ground in the first place in HotS.

Yeah I played WoW strictly for RBGs and WPvP which sadly are what Blizz has been neglecting the most out of all aspects of their game for many years. I definitely feel marginalized and that most other MMOs give me what I am looking for in an MMO… Its just hard to part from WoW due to the nostalgia I have of playing since Warcraft 3 and love the stylized aesthetic rarely found in other MMOs…

This summed up the problem with prot pallies perfectly. They are either always too strong or too weak so there’s not really a place for them anywhere in PvP.

This is the poisonous drivel that makes tanks hell to fight in pvp. They need to have pvp implementation, not be a side-thought.
