Prot Paladin Lack of Aggro

Is it just me or does Prot Paladin’s abilities outside of Divine Toll and Avenger’s Shield not generate enough aggro? I have been pushing mythic plus key’s to +12 now and I play with a DH/WW that just do bonkers damage when they pop cds and almost all the time the I lose aggro. Even if I’m using my whole spell book on a mob. God forbid I don’t have Divine Toll or Avenger’s Shield up when another mob gets pulled or I’ll just have to watch them take aggro and die. Blessed Hammer, Shield of Righteous, Consecration, and sometimes Judgement doesn’t generate enough aggro when my melee dps is just wailing out 100k+ dps. Can we get a increase in ability aggro?

Burst DPS classes always tip aggro. Blizz might buff threat generation down the line but it’s why threat meters are still a thing.

You take bulwark of righteous fury? Its the main prot pally damage, mid pack pulls cqn be annoying for sure since we dont have a thunderclap or blood boil equivalent, but with double judgement and shield of the righteous usually something up.

And if not bubble taunt will get everything on to you

They should probably just buff tank damage in general. Already seeing some dps hit 70k+ overall. It’s not a crime for tanks to deal more damage.

I’ve noticed on my Prot Pally that Avenger’s Shield isn’t bouncing to other targets. It only hits the 1 main target and that’s it so it makes it really hard to hold aggro. Anyone else dealing with this bug?

It’s not a bug. You probably talented into it, called Focused Emnity.

Aggro is a non-issue for Protection Paladin this expansion or the last.

i dont have any issues with aggro whatsoever

edit: i am using HotR, tho.

consecrate is better than you’re giving it credit for… or it can be.

I play prot pally and have ran with many on my MM hunter, no agro issues they have agro issues then they are playing the spec wrong.

I am yet to lose threat to a DPS or Healer class. Not happened a single time. I only lose threat to other tanks but it is ok.

all we need is an AOE taunt that isn’t attached to a talent point, and 2 steed charges by default, really.

We don’t because we literally do not have an aggro problem to begin with.

it’s about utility. we don’t have an “oh sh-t butt pull” panic button other than DT, or maybe DS if you spec’d into Final Stand, which would be odd, tbh.

One Avenger’s Shield would be enough. We are already bloated with buttons as is.

I have no issues in an M+ environment, but in raids against your partner tank there is a significant threat scaling difference. Especially if you are playing with a warrior. Warrior tanks will rip threat off you even during wings.

Are you changing talents for raids? Going for the single target Avengers Shield will help with damage and threat generation.

Yep, change between single and AoE spec depending on the fight in raid. The first couple minutes of a fight are where problems happen. (eg: Terros and Council) It isn’t a problem that is prevent our group from killing bosses. But it feels bad as a tank for another tank to out threat you enough you have to plan around it. In SL I always pulled the boss first because no one was out threating Prot Paladin; now it is Warriors time to shine.

My warrior tank and I spent some time on the dummy watching our threat meter in Details and the difference is eye opening. We tried full openers, auto attacks only, him using Defensive vs Battle stance, single abilities…Warrior wins every time.

Yep, even on council with a full aoe loadout, i can open 30k dps ahead with AW Might, Bastion, Moment of Glory, take all damage talents and use ultimate power potion, warrior will win threat on all 4 targets anyway unless i taunt a second or third time.

It’s only gotten much worse now that my co tank is running the puzzle box and boon trinkets so he has an outrageous amount of burst now.

Consecrate man

That’s about pwars being disgustingly op at the moment, not protpals lacking the tools to hold threat.

I can’t believe I’m saying this but I agree with Sosari (for once). Aggro is not an issue.

I would suggest making sure you are pressing all of your buttons and doing your base rotation correctly.
