Never has wow ever had a spec with a total of 0 players in 2s/3s/rbgs since this expansion prot paladin. Compared to other tanks it ranks at 1 brewmaster out of 10 brewmasters. Not a single player would play prot for flag carrying or for sitting a base, because a ret paladin would do better in every single possible scenario of PvP. When you nerf a specs healing by 80%, it’s dmg by 50% and it’s dmg taken increased by 67% in pvp only. On top of all the nerfs on pvp talents, you have for result a busted spec in pve that has no utility in pvp because of the utterly insane % difference between game modes. Adding to this the new mana revamp for paladin, I don’t even think a prot could do more than 500k healing (half their hps) before being out of mana. If only the small company would realize their flawed game design.
Accept the harsh reality: Protection Paladins are a lost cause in PvP. It’s time to embrace a new path and move on.
All tank specs shouod be hard-banned from pvp anyway. It should just automatically default you to a damage spec. Maybe do the same with healers.

Tanks should be relatively non existent in arena for sure. They make the game worse in every regard whenever there is one.
However, RBGs are a solid point to bring up. Tank balance there has been atrocious for a while. Usually just VDH/Bear for the last couple years or so maybe longer? The problem is the devs have trouble balancing arena anyway (it will never be perfectly balanced) and it is clear they do not prioritize pvp very often. It sucks because RBGs are a very fun game mode and is the least frustrating way of playing pvp for most players, but again it would require blizzard to be on top of it and they just usually aren’t when it comes to pvp, let alone rbgs.
They had some good frequent tuning earlier in df but it dropped off towards the middle of the expansion and has been relatively non existent since 10.2.5.
Fingers crossed that when BG Blitz becomes a real rated mode that there will be some much needed attention focused to the tank specs in PvP. Really obnoxious that bear/BDK/VDH are live lords in certain random (I know it’s just random bgs who cares) epic BGs that need ten people to bring down while others like prot war/paladin can be taken down by a single person.
Tanks don’t belong in Arena though.
Paladin is also the only class with disabled abilities while carrying flags and orbs, this makes Prot paladins weak tuning most noticable when trying to do tank tasks. Healers make better flag/orb carriers than several tank specs.
Correct, tanks dont belong in arena, but some tank specs are designed and tuned to enable players to reach 2400, other tank specs are tuned and designed to not be able to reach 1800. If all tanks were as weak at pvp tanking as Prot Pally, that would be fine, but right now it is a massive difference in performance potential.
