With incorporeal and afflicted just being the icing on the cake it seems ludicrous to bring any other tank to M+ these days. Paladins essentially solve afflicted solo, can help with incorporeal, and already offer insane group utility.
I can’t help but feel that they need a large reduction in general sturdiness to compensate for the utility and off-healing that they provide–not to mention their good damage in both ST and AoE!
No thanks. I lived through SL season 3 and 4 where blood dk was the undisputed king for like 9 months. Glad prot paladin has gotten their time in the sun. Maybe eventually they will get overtaken come next patch, but given how prot paladin tier set bonus kinda sucks, that may happen sooner rather than later.
As a Brew, we don’t bring quite the utility that Prot Pala’s do, but we can help with Incorp, Afflicted, and Poison and disease cleansing and bring giga damage so yeah. From what I have seen maybe its a gearing thing, but many streamers and others have said Prot Pala isn’t as sturdy as it was in S1, maybe from the nerfs? I tried playing Prot Pala but was very bored by the rotation.
The 4 set bonus sucks the 2 set bonus is pretty good
ya know, instead of nerfing prot paladin, why don’t they buff the underperforming tanks instead
do you think its fun for players who play something else atm? like in s1, prot warriors were the best tanks and they got hit with nerf bat and now they fall on the list
Brew better for incorp for sure, trying to cast turn evil and repentance with a bunch of things beating on you is not a good time. The odd shield toss to save the day when people with CC that can actually cast aren’t paying attention though saves lives.
I believe there is a fine line between buffing everyone and nerfing an overtuned spec, I am not saying Prot Pala is that overtuned, but when you buff up every other tank to the same level, all tanks become unkillable gods like at the end of SL and they end up with a massive across the board nerf like what happened before DF launch. Which hurts some tank specs a lot more than others. They SHOULD buff other tanks, but the way Blizz buffs and then nukes everyone, this is a dangerous precedent to set.
I dont think you can argue that paladin isn’t overtuned… To provide such massive utility in M+ on top of being #2-#3 on damage AND be the second tankiest spec to physical damage, AND #1 or #2 to magic and bleeds? Oh and have BR. Immunity. AoE taunt. And this doesn’t even consider BoP, sac, freedom.
This is as close as you get to the “no other tank is viable by comparison”.
In a month or so you will see vdh at the top. Everyone at the top end knows how strong vdh is. Prot got nerfed a d you feel it in high fort.
Edit if you are losing to pally who does less dps than 3 other tanks, there other problems.
Prot paladins were pretty much top in M+ in SL too during middle seasons.
Damage was slightly nerfed due to a hotfix

It’s a symptom of a wider issue, especially when it comes to afflicted, where hybrid utility is at an all time high. There’s never been a worse time to be a DPS warrior or DK, for example.
don’t forget that we can also bring the hammer down fast if need be (HoJ).
Prot warriors were barely touched.
Prot paladins just got buffed past them.
which is odd because from pure dps they 2 classes are actually the higher end, especially fury being the top melee. but they bring nothing else of value.
Weird wowhead post hard for me to understand what exactly was reverted but DKs and warriors can now deal with incorporeal.
DK can control undead and it was putting the damage reduction on to mobs (I think this was reverted for obvious reasons)
Warriors can take shattering throw and remove the immunity to damage from incorp (granted it’s on a 3 min cd)
Tank dps could use a dps balance pass imo

Why would you want to nerf Paladins? Just buff the other tanks to compensate.
Warriors got nerfed in S1, revert the nerfs.
Buff DH, Brewmaster, Bear, and BDK up to Prot Pally and early S1 Prot Warrior standards.
Tired of nerfing classes, let Paladins shine and bring everyone up to their level.
