Prot paladin build question

Just got back into tanking mythic+ just curious if it’s ok for me to run mainly vers(28%)/haste(20%). I have low mastery(10%) and crit(8%). I’m using pvp trinkets for extra base haste not sure if I should be using str trinkets instead. I’m also playing kyrian under Mikanikos for short divine toll and also haste buff not sure if Pelagos is better for mastery buff.
Also playing seraphim cause it pretty much lines up with my shorter divine toll. Not looking to push crazy high keys maybe 10s-12s. Thanks for any of the info I get!!
I’m also logged out in my hpal pvp gear I’m using the reset avengers shield leggo atm not sure what I should go for.

Stats generally don’t matter. Just focus on your item level. You can tank any content with any stat load-out and be fine.

Mika is more damage and Pelagos is better defensively. Just pick what you feel more comfortable playing. They are both good.

As Wooble stated, don’t focus on secondary stats all that much. Just aim for 20% haste and the rest doesn’t really matter. Ilvl is king due to primary stat.

There are a lot of top paladin tanks who have switched to Forgelite Prime, but I have stuck with Pelagos for the 350 mastery buff. I also like that Divine Toll perfectly lines up with Wings every other cast.

Just to clarify here — there is no soft or hard cap on Haste. It does have diminishing value since you technically need less of it as your Holy Power generation gets more consistent however it still has value for DPS and Seraphim builds. Item level should dictate how much of a stat you have.

Yeah, I agree. I find ~20-25% a good spot to be in for sustained Holy Power generation. I also use Blessed Hammer spec for the extra charge and the ability to store holy power out of combat/between pulls.

It’s fairly easy to hit the 20% mark since a lot of the pieces provide haste+another stat.

Alrighty should I keep using pvp trinkets for now those bring me to exactly 20% haste or should I change them out for strength trinkets?

Which trinkets do you currently have access to? I would run HoA, it has a nice haste mastery neck.

The general consensus for tanks is to target ilvl. Once you reach a point of being able to focus secondary stats, do some research and see what top prot pallies are runing.

Usually there are lots of factors, but stat weights are a big one. I mained pally in BFA so I know it’s different now, but usually you’re going to want enough haste to maintain mitigation/keep your rotation smooth, and then dump into your best secondary’s.

I’ve always been a proponent of going overly defensive first, and then moving towards more dps focused gear slowly until I find that niche.

The on-use trinket and proc trinkets from PvP are both good. I like the proc one a lot personally.

Ideally you would get a Scale from DoS as it’s the best tank trinket from dungeons/m+.

Right now I don’t have to many options got pvp shackle trinket (233ilvl), Slimy Consumptive Organ(220ilvl), Harmonic Crowd Breaker(220ilvl) and then the two pvp trinkets I’m using Badge and Insignia both those are 216ilvl.

Trinkets are kind of the exception to the rule and ilvl doesn’t really matter. For now, I would just stick to the pvp trinkets and spam DoS for blood splattered scale. It will be the biggest tank bump you can get. Before the run starts you can ask other hybrid specs to loot spec into tank and explain IQD well remain in the loot table for them.

After you get the trinket the neck from HoA will make up for the loss in haste.

Alrighty thank you for all the info I appreciate it!!

Pretty sure anything you do in this range won’t matter at all, you could probably tank it just fine wearing intellect trinkets and weapons

Maybe for someone with 2.4k score and 240 item level.

For someone with 600 score and 220 item level, it definitely does.

No because in that range the mobs still don’t hit hard no matter what the individuals score is

It’s not about score, it’s about the relative difficulty of ilvl vs mob health/damage. 220 in +10s will still hurt.

It’s also about skill level.

Yea I’m still getting back into taking tanked a lot in bfa again nothing crazy only 12s maybe alittle higher. But I’m mainly an hpal arena player :grinning:

I disagree 220 in a 10 is more than enough. My warrior 227 2 chested a 16 last night. It’s a lot more about using the specific tanks tool kit to its maximum.

We may agree to disagree here

They are literally saying it’s about 9/10 a skill issue. Someone who knows the spec better can push higher keys with lesser gear. Someone who is kinda new or has a lesser score, usually, isn’t as good and needs the better gear to get the same result
