Proposal to resolve lack of Tanks

I remember his letter to players about the Difficulty of Cata content on release. Essentially a long winded “Get good or quit” statement, not realizing that he’d just alienated a large portion of the player base.

Dude’s a marine biologist, not a game dev. Should stay in his lane.

You do understand that at some point you need to kill them and in most challenging content that requires a tank as they will rip dps apart in seconds. I am all for making CC a part of the game but if you remove the ability to hold threat you will need to restore the nerfed survivability and self healing just done to DPS.

If you find a good tank, add them as a friend. If you find an ok tank that is willing to learn, add them as a friend.

I have been lucky to not have gone through vote kicks, getting blamed, or yelled at in general. But some people get s***t on a lot to the point of quitting tanking. So the lack of tanks is to be expected.

There is no way to fix it. 95% of the time, the worst performing player is the one complaining, and they cause the issue. So friend tanks often, and you’ll eventually find one to run with regularly.

I’m guessing that some AI version is around the corner.

I made the original post. Sorry, I haven’t used these forums since vanilla so didn’t check to see what character i was posting under.

For those that commented “be a tank”, I primarily play tank these days, though I’ve only broken 3k on a warlock. All PUGS btw.

There is a commenter in this thread that brough up the old Black Rock dungeon. That is exactly what I’m getting at. Smaller dungeons, fewer packs, fewer mobs per pack, but more difficult mechanics. mechanics that everyone must participate in. Right now, it feels like the tank does all “mental” work and takes all the blame when things go poorly.

Yes… dungeons would be more difficult… but that is the whole point of the mythic plus system. Especially after the rework. Everyone has figured out how to group up mobs and smash things. Hence needing to eliminate 10 levels of M+ because they had become trivial.

I think overall, the player base has gotten better at the game. Past time to bring back some real challenges, I.E. mage tower and similar events. FYI, I’m not good enough to beat mage tower scenarios. I’ve just played this game for a long time (off and on) and I miss the feeling of accomplishment that old dungeons brought. Timing a key in modern M+ gives me very little feeling of accomplishment… its more a feeling of relief that I haven’t wasted 30min of precious game time.

There is no mechanical change they can make that would make people want to tank more that wouldn’t also just completely neuter M+ as a concept.

The community should try being nicer to each other. Yelling at the tanks over and over is a sure-fire way to make them all either stop tanking, or, find a dedicated group and not tank for PUGs at all.

This applies to healers, and even DPS as well. Feels like everyone is at each other’s throats all the time. Tanks just often seem to be the primary target for some reason.

You are thinking of Cata on launch. The famous “Wow, Dungeons are Hard!” post by Ghostcrawler summed up the team’s philosophy behind it. It didn’t go over well with the pumping community and they backtracked pretty quickly.

I absolutely agree with this. I hate how tanks and healers have all their power indexed into defensives.

It makes them unplayable outside of group content.

And idk about other players. But when I decide to be a brewmaster monk Im picking it because I like the flavor of the class. Not because I want to tank. I am willing to tank, but I just want to be a dwarf brewmaster.

DPS are braindead.

Tanks control pacing, and cc, and interrupts, and stopping for the healer’s mana, because DPS cannot ever be trusted to take care of anything except pew pew. That’s why there are fewer tanks. It involves responsibility beyond brainless facerolling, and most players cannot handle that.

It’s especially irritating being the one person in a group putting in effort when no one else can be bothered. THAT drives away tanks.

Nah. Keep tanks their same survivability but give them interesting abilities and let them do damage within 10% of DPS classes.

In other words just make tanking fun.

Just add a tank skill that just paints waypoints on the ground leading them through the correct dungeon routes I feel this the only way to lower the bar for entry and get newer people on board at this point.

just make tanks more durable, make their 10 second cds into passives, make their threat if you touch a mob it’s on you forever, easy. just disable tank specs in pvp to compensate

plays a tank class
does not tank

??

World of Warcraft as it was in the olden days. I get nostalgic. Go for it.

Wouldn’t you just bring a 5man tank team then?

I dont tank because prot pala is too prone to die in the slightest mistake. Prot warr on the other hand feels smooth like butter. They just need to buff baseline tankiness for prot pala and I will tank

so… scenarios? bring back those?

tbh i am fine with more instances being like scenarios where spec isn’t important

I’m sure they could make a limit for instance type

rip being a priest and relying to dear god someone else interrupts…

He wasn’t wrong. Its just that gigabads outnumber everyone else.
