When creating a mythic+ group in the group finder, it would be interesting to have an option “Hide timer”, which then in the run hides the timer. This would incentivise players to create groups where the difficulty is the main experience, not timing the dungeon.
I remember back in the days, when I was a noob (and so were others) and the whole group would wipe on dungeon bosses or mobs but we would fight our way through, find was and in the end we would beat the dungeon. It was nice.
The option to remove the timer would bring that feeling back. Of course, there’s the option now, which says wether you want to finish in time or just complete the dungeon. The new option should only be available, if “completion” is selected.
You might say “Just ignore the timer then”, but this doesn’t always work in PUGs. Hiding the timer would emphazise that completion is the main goal and the main motivation. It might separate players only a bit, but I believe it will remove more frustration between players who aim for different playsyles.
What do you guys think?

I already use a weak aura to keep track of M+ timer and mobs. Getting rid of Blizzard timer would not make any difference for me.
I understand the nostalgia about the old days, but they are long gone. The game has changed and people’s mind sets have changed.
If you want the experience you are describing, you will need to:
- Play with a group of friends who are willing to do that.
- Play in the beginning of expac when all the dungeons are new so people are willing to wipe and learn.
Maybe the key is indeed to create a community for untimed runs. Thanks for the idea!
The timer and the difficulty are directly tied
Remove one and the other is of no consequence

Players can already do this with “Completion” groups. They can completely ignore the timer.

This comes up often enough and I never get how it would be more enjoyable or bring a different group of people into the m+ fold. To clarify, is the experience you want like the scaling of a +28 without having to time keys to get a 28 key? Or you just in general want people to stop leaving when it becomes obvious the key will deplete?

I think this is a great idea!
A lot of players on this board would like to do M+ but don’t want to deal with the timer so the removal of it from the screen would give them a more positive, less stressful experience.

I think both of these I would answer with:
It is indeed a change that would only give a psychological improvement. While this is unimportant to some, it might improve the game for others.
Kind of true, altough you can already complete dungeons outside of the timers today.
So you want the timer to be there, but invisible? What would that accomplish? People who are that adverse to failure and time would still be thinking about the timer, present or not.
If you want to remove the timer completely, then that already exists with “completion” groups.
Iirc you can minimize the timer/count window now and not see it.

So hypothetically you get a difficult dungeon with no timer and wipe repeatedly on a wayy scaled up boss, that isn’t stressful? It reminds me of cata heroics, or mage tower, etc. Anything that can be perceived as too difficult becomes stressful and then some people call for nerfs or change. Maybe I’m looking at it wrong
I’m not against additional game modes or bringing new people into m+ at all, I just wonder if a lot of this is ‘you think you do but you don’t’
Hiding a UI element that is 100% central to how the entire form of content functions isn’t a good solution to some people not wanting to be rushed. As long as the timer is still ACTUALLY working, it needs to be visible.
I do think M+ could have been designed in such a way that it would work without a timer, but dungeon design would have to be part of that, and Blizzard doesn’t seem interested.
The timer is only relevant to the “bonus” part of m+. Completion is still the base goal.
It’s not possible with Dungeons without it turning into a 5 man raid. Where the bosses are the wall/barrier to success. Bosses and trash would have to be doubled in scale or more if the pressure from the timer is gone. You would have even more groups not be able to get to the end at all due to wiping on bosses.
It’s certainly LESS stressful than a difficult dungeon with repeated wipes on a way scaled up boss with a timer ticking down the seconds until you fail !

But in the timer version, at least you can eventually finish, still get some loot and a vault spot. For equivalent difficulty without a timer, groups would be hard stuck and just not getting anything but a repair bill.

When you make a group simply put completion run.
The thing about this though if you dont time it your key goes down. Which feels bad when it happens to your key. Once you lose a few keys you want to vet your participants. Which is why we got raider.io in the first place.
What?
The OP just wants to hide the timer.
Again, what does it accomplish?

It’s crazy how divisive M+ has become. I really can’t stand the idea of raiding and have never spent a moment thinking about ways to change it so I would want to do it.
People fascinate me with this obsession on changing content.
