Progression Server

I had an idea, this “anniversary” realm progresses into tbc and then finally wotlk. At the end of vanilla give players an option to copy their character into era. Make dedicated servers for tbc era and wrath era servers. These realms would permanently loop every year giving everyone a “fresh” experience annually. What do you guys think?

i think this sounds perfect sign me up!!! i think every “fresh loop” they could change the pacing of things every time to spice things up

yes and allow us to buy clones at the end of each expansion!!!

That’s a very low bar.

It should be a default feature for players to stay in whichever expansion they decide to as they’re leveling up. No different than toggling off XP.

cloning was good the first time they did it. keep the expansions seperate and just allow us to stay in which ever perma era realm we want once said expansion ends. but if u wanna do both and clone ur character id pay for that again

This sounds good to me, as long as the anniversary realms do not ever get any inflated drop rates or XP rates. If they do get boosted rates, then they should be kept in separate ecosystems because they aren’t the same game.

that dosent bother me much era ppl will be inflated anyways just by shear amount of time the could potientally spend on 1 character. i think a small seasonal boost during the fresh cycle could give some players a chance to catch up.

I just fundamentally disagree with the idea of this being appropriate to mix with Era.

Era is stated to be a recreation of vanilla “as it was”, or as closely as they can manage it.

Transferring in characters that “earned” things at boosted rates would really seem to disrupt the integrity of what Era is supposed to be (1x / vanilla).

I don’t think it’s cool (or fair) for someone to get rare items in half the /played time of what it took someone who farmed it at vanilla rate and then be able to show up on the same Era servers as if they have earned the same achievements as native Era characters.

The entire point of Era’s ecosystem is for it to be as close to vanilla as possible. Seasonal modes are completely incongruent with the spirit of that intention.

its already happened to era with SoM. also era has been a thing for 5 years the people with things there arent exactly playing on vanilla rates either. i dont really like increased loot drops either but i dont care about a slight exp boost. this would make new players less overwhelmed starting on seasonal then transferring to era.

I think that was objectively a disaster that negatively affected Era in several ways, and it shouldn’t have happened. There was ample outcry about it at the time, but I digress.

Again I just fundamentally disagree with the notion that “seasons” should become a shortcut to side-step Era’s vanilla rates all just for the purpose of making new players ‘less overwhelmed’.

Being overwhelmed at the sheer amount of playtime required to reach end-game is quintessentially a part of Vanilla/Era.

It’s not something that they should give players a “skip” mode to subvert the difficulty.

It’s in the same family as Blizz just outright offering paid character boosts. Yuck.

i’m ok with that in theory, but if you copy your character to era you’re giving up your dual spec, (and maybe unlimited debuffs? is that a thing in era still?)

Well yes there is no dual spec in era wow. All the rules that apply on era would be applied to said character transferred

Edited for typos

debuff limit needs to go in era so badly its so very annoying. and imo dual spec has been absolutely phenomenal i hope it gets added to era maybe have it more restricted in era so u can only change in rested areas

Been asking for this as well- I think there is enough interest in this style of “original trilogy rolling progression servers” with the era servers for each version as an offshoot. I see the anniversary realms as the first “generation” of these style servers, and hope they release the second set before the end of wotlk to help stagger and keep more content fresh/relevant. I wonder how era realms will work; will they create new ones for each generation? I would think not, so then each generation of progression servers would offshoot to the same era realms, effectively making them trophy realms

I don’t know if they would be willing to sink the resources for a new trophy realm at the end of each rolling server. I would imagine at the end of the server life they’ll just keep accumulating into there respective era realm. I think this theory would be very cost effective with little maintenance needed for these server cycles outside of the regular resets and that’s profit.

This is what scientists refer to as a “No Brainer”

Blizzard will never do this for that reason.

Yeah I guess time will tell. They’re a business at the end of the day and so they’ll do what makes them the most money.

tbc and wotlk era will keep me subscribed. they will be losing my money otherwise

I’m in the very small category here, but i’d like it to continue on to Cata and beyond like the current progression one. But also allow a permanent server or transfer capability for anyone that wants it.
