I love playing classic. But eventually, I’d like to progress through the various expansions.
Wouldn’t it be nice if there were a small group of servers. And when you reach max level for the classic, you could transfer free to the next expansion or stay in classic.
I’d even pay for those transfers.
This way I could play classic until I’m bored with it… And then move on without it being forced upon me.
It would be awesome if Blizzard did this. You can do level scaling and time walking on retail but it’s just really not the same experience! We live in a world where virtual machines can be spun up very quickly on large, powerful, physical servers, so it would be nice to see something where you could just decide what version you wanted to play and then go pay that. If no server was currently running, your connection request would initiate a dynamic startup for it.
It might start out as being a largely single player experience, which would be perfectly fine for a lot of folks, but I have a pretty strong feeling that small communities for each expansion would start to emerge.
In this kind of paradigm I can’t imagine the hosting to really be any different if they had X amount of people on one expansion or X amount of people spread out across them, and it’s all the same sub at this point.
