Professions in WOW are a giant mess

Or is it me?
I am leveling Blacksmithing and though the collecting and leveling is fun… What can I actually make that anyone besides a new person buying low end crap off the AH?

No one would buy anything I can make as it isn’t even remotely a want. The only thing I can think of is using it to trade between alts?? I guess… And I swear if I get the recipe for “Boots of Impunity” once more I am going to lose it!!! lol.

Right now the best thing about a profession??? Selling the mats. And that’s Meh.

nothing until your skill is fully maxed out. then you’ll make gold from work orders, not the AH.

no crafting professions are pretty much a gold sink right now - even when you have maxed things out.

I easily make profit off of selling profession gear.

Blacksmith has a large amount of said gear to make. Don’t look for massive profit. Just look for profit.

Also with my leatherworker I can sell skinning caps for 2k+ fairly regularly. Which is massive profit. Heh.

Excellent news. However, your profession is not my profession, and your specialization is not my specialization. Why aren’t other prof/spec combos equally as viable?

Perhaps you chose a historically unwanted profession? Professions like Inscription, Engineering, and to a degree Jewelcrafting have had wild ups and downs.

On my engineer I simply expect to not make money.

That and as the expansion drives on my current money making from profession tools is definitely going to shrink. Your profession’s star may rise in this time. Who knows.

The market is freaking insane anyways.

Make stacks off work orders

Lose gold while leveling

Some professions are pretty straight forward for picking what specialization you want to go with and others aren’t so much. Clearly not enough beta testing went on for it.

Plus they should’ve had a talent/trait reset for it as well from the start as some professions can’t really progress if they picked a tree that doesn’t allow for fast growth because the info given is sorely lacking.

It’s a confusing mess that is poorly explained and I stopped when it started to take over 10,000 gold or days of grinding to get a single point. I felt like I was playing Lost Ark. No thanks.

I feel like the crafting order and crafting specialization system is a punishment. I never cared about crafting before but now it seems designed to sell WoW tokens, so I’m actually rather appalled by it.

That is a big problem. When you think about it, it was a complicated design and very unlikely that many prof/spec combos would be viable. I also do not think that “profitibility” was a design consideration. More like, let’s just throw it out there and some people make gold, fine, and if other lose a bunch of gold, that is fine too. So, everything is Working As Designed.

Since release, I have seen… 1 work order. I spam refresh and nothing. Then the cost to make anything remotely useful is higher than the sell cost of the item. I am just selling mats as a side thing to maker some Gold. Its not much and boring but what else can I do?

I cant make anything as a blacksmith that anyone cant get on the AH that is better.

My tailor is stuck with nothing to make to gain skill… didn’t realize they would put traps in progression like that. Eventually my renown will be high enough to get more recipes. Some on the AH…but kinda pricey

My LW can make the epic stuff…BUUUUTTTTTTT, what’s the point when already outclassed by LFR drops? grrrrr lol

The renown recipes can break out of all traps, but even without them, the spec unlock changes today lower the unlock points for different specialization tabs, hopefully letting you make progress (eventually)

It’s not just you, in true Blizz fashion they managed to take a solid idea but then completely screw it up.

I mean, I don’t expect to be making things that are insanely OP or even slightly behind but, If I cant even compete with drops, what am I doing it for?

you’re not meant to just make the low end stuff. They designed it to make high level gear

I dunno, I’m working on Engineering and explosives and finding real good uses for the Meat Grenades to also level up Cooking.

Might invest in the Tinker arm of the profession tree next.

Idk about a giant mess. I’ve already maxed out Phial Mastery and I’m now putting points into Potion Mastery.

Right now all I can make is Purple level 384 armor / weapons that is bind on pick up. Everything else is 343 Blues that I can make and sell on the AH for around 50-150g. So the purples I cant sell on the AH of course and why would anyone want that anyway? They get better drops, no?

You need to seriously read up on how the system works (crafting orders, ilevel based upon skill, etc). That being said it is probably too late for you on this major patch.
