Professions in BFA

First aid got ditched (I still don’t understand why)

Craftable high-end gear got bottlenecked into two slots. (One, in the case of jewel crafting)

The tools of trade quests were fun and diverting but ultimately pointless.

(Except for the enchanters and alchemists, you lucky guys!)

In the new zones, there’s no shrine for my focusing iris, drums for my leather worker, rifts for my tailor… you get it.

Archeology was completely neglected (abandoned?) this expansion. (Legion had elite dig sites and fun, random encounters.)

Rare or difficult-to-come-by reagents were all soulbound. (Hydro/tidal cores, expulsm, breath of bwamsamdi, etc)

I just don’t understand what’s going on here.

Blizzard: “We are getting rid of First Aid.”

Players: “Why?”

Blizzard: “We just feel as though it doesn’t have a place and is rather pointless in todays game.”

Players: “But yall are the ones that made it poin…”

Blood of Sargeras, felblight, etc were always soulbound too…They sometimes are able to be traded towards the end of expac…but yeah this is really normal dude. Have you not played any other expacs?

Also normally professions only have one or two slots for items too. This is extremely normal. WoD was the only exception

I’ve played them all and don’t seem to recall things ever being this dire.

Alts + competionism is a bad combo for professions at the moment. I’ve spent almost half a million gold on recipes in BFA that are completely redundant because I already have them on another character.

Archeology is getting crowded out by an overwhelmingly long todo list. i’d really like for pristines to be account-wide and to get back the +5 skill for completing a project.

I’m sad that the big fishing achievement involves so little actual fishing but rather a completely different minigame of searching for tiny things to click.

I’m still not certain I’m even going to finish simply leveling professions on alts - I’m slowly making progress on accumulating basic resources for alts.

The bind-on-bickup gear has made me realize none of my leatherworking characters are actually leather wearers, so I have no path to collecting those appearances.

I didnt like the idea of losing first aid, but It had long simply been a cloth sink and that would have been brutal this expansion.

Post expansion, I’m going to need to store massive amounts of mats for the future legacy runs but bank space is running low because of all the old mats I’m already saving. i can probably safely do a purge of WoD mats but Legion pressions still have a lot of work ahead next expansion (if I have any spare time to go back and do legacy stuff)

I miss shoulder and leg enchants

I miss specific color slotted gems for bonuses

I miss BC era weapons that had upgrades to them and were relevant

I miss specific head slot gems with bonuses

I miss impactful crafting that isn’t outscaled by m+ gear or raiding in two weeks.

I enjoy doing crafting more now that it’s broken into expansions but I wish it was better in terms of relevance.

Professions being at all viable would only upset the min-max community. Everything wrong with professions was done to appease the people who cried about “being forced” into the “best” profession because we know blizz cant balance anything. Maybe in 8.3 they’ll finally make the mats tradeable, but by then no one will be able to make much so why bother. At this point they might as well remove them, all my alts will have herbing and mining, because the one alchemist/enchanter can make everything I need.

Professions always seem to be all over the place with each expac, especially newer ones. That being said, I am happy that BfA Leatherworking allows me to make practical items such as a diving helmet and suit (which just provide a buff and aren’t actual outfits), and I see that if I get enough Expulsum and Star Wood, I can make my Hunter a bow. As for Archaeology, I’ve always found that prof to be a fun little diversion to get extra lore on the different cultures.

Professions suck this expansion, I’ve played them all, and for sure this one blows the most, while I am still able to pay my sub with gold, gold income via profs is nothing compared to previous expansions.

It’s not just soulbound issues, it’s the fact that what you make is literally almost worthless the second it’s made, unless it’s herb/alch which has a roaring trade, everything else has fallen way down the hole.

Professions don’t make quite as much gold for the casual/core player in BFA.

I remember in legion my brother who knew nothing about the AH or farming could make the BOE legendary once a week and make ~100k gold each week.

God Legion owned lol.

I am upset about first aid, a lot of my characters still used it. I also miss doing the Darkmoon quest and getting those extra tickets for having it.

They should just give one specialty back to each armor-crafting profession (like belt buckles), and then put the focus on crafting UNIQUE cosmetics. Armor, weapons, cloaks, etc. For other professions, maybe double their specialty to offset the lack of cosmetics. No more of the BoP jazz either.

As it is now, a Blacksmith can only craft about half the pieces of the Aspirant plate set. Why? Who cares about the stats, I want the full transmog. But I have to rely on PvP RNG to get the other pieces? It’s ridiculous.

People love cosmetics, they keep player subscribed. Just do it, Blizzard.

This pretty much explains professions in BFA. When it started I realized by the time I actually got the mats I would have no need for the gear I gave up on crafting all together.

The only exception is my alchemist still trying for the little pets with the 7 day cool down and omg low drop rate (sigh).

You forgot to mention the rep gating required to get the 3-star patterns, too.

So, in reality, Blizz should change professions to be for transmog, only.

I didn’t even know about the rep gate because well, I gave up early.
