Oh, how I have longed for professions that have nuance to them again!
I feel like there are just so many things to list, but the biggest thing for me is that everything is customizable again. From enchanting boots for run speed, to sharping stones for my swords, and elixirs that stack and flasks that do flasky things, and goblin engineering that allows me to mind control, and THERE IS JUST SO MUCH!
I missed this.
They stripped all the fun from professions in retail. It’s good to be back folks!

They gutted blacksmithing and gave us… Azerite armor. Annnnnd… they completely removed first aid. It’s horrible on BfA.

I remember when they made it so that enchanting can only be performed on like 4 pieces of armor, but in classic, you can literally modify every piece of equipment you have. They made so many mistakes over the years.

They removed them all, really, except enchanting and alchemy. Anything that creates a slot item has only made worthless gear that somehow never improves, even when you “rank it up”…it just gets cheaper to make so you can churn out more garbage.

Modern professions suck, but they do go up to mythic raid quality (BoP).
I haven’t played since clearing Ghuun. I just couldn’t take the uselessness and ephemerality of everything I did. If they updated it i guess that’s fin, but it’s far to little, far too late, for me.
It does feel refreshing to be contributing to the economy, even as a low level!

Vanilla was the only time I engaged with crafting outside of leveling for the raw stat bonuses when they added them in wrath and onward.
Keeping tailoring up so I can make myself some SP gear, trying to at least get enchanting to 225 so I can run ulda for it when its level appropriate.
Even was able to print some money using the early AH and my professions, have even spent some levels grinding cloth and xp just to keep it up with me.
Has been fun, imagine that.
Im pretty sure the titansteel destroyer at the launch of wrath was the last time blacksmithing was good for an item you actually equip, by that time people realized they were never going to make useful gear with crafting, in vanilla, there are some amazing pieces youd chase for pve and pvp, eventually it just became start trash that was replaced with max level quests.
By wrath it was obvious almost every single crafted item would never be raid valuable, and they still take huge amounts of mats to make what amounts to vendor trash you replace in LFR and heroic dungeons.
Right now professions dont have any value because of layering.

Yeah in my experience basically everything is auctioning for just above vendor price. I don’t know what is causing it but it’s a waste of time even skinning and mining now, which was never the case originally.
The layering problem does hinder professions right now, but don’t underestimate the value of selling mats at vendor price. I’m doing mining and skinning (to later drop for engineering) and the extra money has been great for being able to buy new equipment. Also the economy will stabilize again once layering is fixed, so it will be good to have high level professions later.
They are going to remove layering eventually.
