Professions for Mage

I want to make mage my main but I’m not sure what professions I should get. I have tailoring and enchanting right now but I’ve been looking into taking jewelcrafting or alchemy. Mage will probably be my main for M+ and raiding. What professions should I take? Engineering seems cool too, I like the goggles.

Without a gathering prof, things like Tailoring, Engy, and Alch will cost a lot of gold. Tailoring and Chanting an excellent combo. Can DE any crafts you don’t keep or gear you get for ez mats to sell or make enchants to sell as weapon enchants right now make good gold and all the while make good money to fuel your tailor spending. Not to mention you can enchant your own gear after you craft it. Or offer to enchant someones work order. Tailoring you can make bags, Reagant bags, profession gear, toys and a ton of epic/mythic quality gear on your own. And the gear is actually impressive with a lot of customization on stats, ilvl, embellishments. Tailoring is the best it’s ever been imo.

Alch is nice with herbalism. Not a whole lot needs to be said here. Been a tried and true combo since Vanilla.

Engy offers a ton of great personal benefit items like rocket boots, goggles, worm holes, etc. Tons of gadgets. Probably super expensive to buy stuff for, so you’ll want to pair it with something that can get you your materials you’ll use.

Personally, I am a tailor and alch, but I use a lot of my crafts to make money to fuel the purchasing of my daily items I need or want. Started with 3 mil and easily poored out 800k to start this expac but have now stared making money with over 200k last couple days. Honestly thinking switching from alch to enchant myself. Seems enchanting is actually turning money where alch really isn’t unless you get your own herbs. Herbs are selling for a fortune themselves.

This is a good place for a Mage to be. Solid professions that are helpful to the class and don’t require any sort of gathering.

If you go JC, you’ll need Mining, and if you go Alchemy, you’ll need Herbs. You can do both of these but I still feel that Tailor/Enchant is a better combo for a Mage.

Sure, but there isn’t much there for a mage. You get a few transmogs, and that’s about it. They don’t need Goblin Gliders since they have Slow Fall, and they don’t need the teleporters since they can literally do that themselves. Vendor (Reeves)? Nah, there are mounts for that and the aforementioned teleporting. Auto Hammer? You wear cloth and you can teleport.

I had (in SL) a max level in every class (yes, all 12) and I had every profession covered in some way (even having 4 Engineers to cover the 4 armor type for BOP transmogs). Trust me, Tailor/Enchanting are probably the best ones for a Mage.

Alternatively, if you are willing to play alts and have a few “feeder” characters (characters that only gather) then you could “get away with” doing something else. My Mage has been Tailor/Enchanter since Vanilla though, and I don’t see any reason to ever change that (even now that my Mage is my second character behind my Shaman).

Cool. TY. Guess I’ll stick with it. Alch seems much more competitive for $ tho, tailoring doesn’t seem to offer much worth buying and the market is pretty heavy with suppliers.
