Professions for Dwarf Hunter?

I planned on going with skinning, Engineering and first aid. Is this a good profession choice for a Dwarf Hunter? other recommendations are welcome. What is the best for a hunter

Skinning doesnt match Engi. Id go mining/Engi

First aid does not take a slot - everyone can have it just like fishing and cooking.

yeah mining / Eng… unless you got an alt to mine for you…
And pick up Cooking / FA… good to have cook/fish/Fa anyway

Mining and engineering for ammo
Skinning and leatherworking for pre-40 gear
mining and blacksmithing for some post-40 gear (worst of the options)
skinning an mining/herbology for auction house gold

You definitely need to focus on cooking as a hunter. You’ll be feeding the crap out of your pet. If done right, first aid isn’t really that necessary, so you can let that slip.

I always went mining / eng with my dwarf hunter. Cant’ go wrong with that combo!

Thinking about it, the big disadvantage to mining/eng is that you tend to use way more ammo than you create if you aren’t focusing on it. Even if you are, it’s such a time sink for little cost offset.

I found the guns, scopes, ammo, trickets, explosives, battle pets, additional hearthstones (to gadgetzan and everlook) all to be fun and worth having as a hunter. Then you can sell any leftover mats you get from mining then you don’t use as an engineer.

I’m taking all the secondary professions and 1-60 going Skinning/Enchanting and at 60 I’ll drop Skinning for mining and gather enough to get my Engineering to 300 and then probably spend all of Phase 1 stockpiling before actually going to Engineering right before Phase 2

do you think mining and engi is good for a hunter

Depending on how you plan on playing, you can just use skinning to make a lot of gold because it’s much easier to farm than ore. You can just sit in an area and go ham. Then use some of the gold you make to buy mats you need to make ammo and whatnot with engineering.

That’s what I did for years anyway.

I think the point is that engineering in not very useful without mining.

So unless you plan on using another char to get engineering mats through mining, you will not be able to advance engineering.

Yes. You can make “Thorium Shells”, which you can trade 1-1 for “Thorium Headed Arrows”.

Making your own raid ammo is huge.

Skinning and LW is still post-40 gear. LW makes mail gear not BS

thorium shells, are guns worth it in classic if i have engineering?

Actually, both do, I’d forgotten that lw did have mail after 40, mostly did bs on my warrior. BS has a number of Mail sets and I remembered people hitting me up for them.

IIRC, best ranged weapon for hunter is a bow, but it’s only an issue once you hit 60.
Before then, only ranged weapon to not care about is crossbow. There’s like 2 you can get. It and polearms are the weapons people get to show off they have too much time on their hands.

Not really. But there is a repeatable quest to trade 200 thorium shells for 200 thorium headed arrows.

So basically you make arrows with engineering.

Maybe I was thinking of BC. It’s been so long…

No, I think you are right, a bow. I said not really in response to “are guns worth it”.
