Professions for Druids in Shadowlands?

Hey all,
Please be gentle - returning after a long, long absence. I wanted to ask if there are any professions which are ideal for druids in Shadowlands. I never really got into professions before so I am pretty ignorant on the topic. Any tips?

Hi and welcome back friend

I play restoration and I recently (BFA) started getting into Mythic+. I am also considering getting back into Arena!

Now that you kind of see where I’m coming from I’ll share why I chose my professions based on my spec/areas I play in the game:

I chose Herbalism and Alchemy.

They obviously compliment each other, and Alchemy has a lot of potential to contribute to your dps…actually, in BFA it was a major part of my dps for pushing keys.

you should ultimately pick what you enjoy - because some people choose professions for playing the AH game, or niche roles to help out in raid guilds…but you can’t go wrong with Herb/Alch as they are also big money makers too…(maybe not the most - but it’ll be a consistent way for you to make money for the duration of the expansion).

good luck!

OK, my honest review… This is not kind.

If you were hoping to gear yourself as a LW, dont bother.
LW maxes out at slightly worse than Heroic dungeons, so it’s pretty much useless outside of legendary crafting. There could be an argument made for supplying yourself with armor kits for stamina buffs. Making your own base item for a legendary could be fun, but you can also just farm/buy mats and ask someone to make it for you. Also, how many legendaries are you committed to making? it takes 15 to get to rank 2, 15 more to get rank 3, and 15 more to get rank 4… so your looking at 46 (i think, not doublechecking numbers) minimum to get a rank 4 leggo base item AFTER leveling LW to max. If you commit to that the rank 4 will probably go for a lot. but thats a BIG commitment.

Engineering will drop your form whenever you use the special belt enchants or a device like the Soul Trap or Gravimetric Cannon. This may or may not be a deal breaker for you. There is also no super endgame goggles this time around: they also max at just worse then heroic dungeons ilvl and havent any special abilities of note. All in all after leveling it for a bit and playing with the bombs and devices I came to the conclusion engineering is really bad this expac. There are also no Engineering legendary items. There’s some fun to be had with the grav cannon, and other novelties, but that’s about it.

Blizzard promised a really great revamp to crafting, and i was actually really excited for it. Optional ingredients were going to let us customize our gear and add special featured to them so we could truly make great sets of stacking niche gear for special builds, encounters, and strategies.
They failed.

Purposely?
Hard to fail this completely on accident.

IDC if my belt makes food last twice as long if its going to be 32 ilvls lower than a belt that doesnt. Crafting maxes at 168, while nathria NORMAL drops are 200. I surpassed crafted gear by the morning of day 3 on my SL journey. MAJOR LET DOWN.

For professions your probably best off making consumables for yourself, which you will actually use, Alchemy, Enchanting, and the gathering professions are what I would recommend. Druids are fantastic Herbalists/miners and thats only going to get better as time goes on and flying eventually unlocks.

If you just want a quick hit of cash, fish are going for up to 200g now with people leveling their cooking. Say you average even 80g per cast, that’s pretty good.

TLDR professions still suck, but at least were not begging RNGeesus for expulsom. Classic / BC / Wrath crafting was still a lot better.

I go herbalism and mining on my druid to double dip on resources. I either funnel those resources to other characters for their professions or I sell them in ah.

My druid has always done herbalism and alchemy.

  1. I just never changed it from when professions gave combat bonuses, the herbalism one gave haste iirc which was nice for balance back then.
  2. Plus it’s just easy gathering as a druid lol.
  3. I find alchemy to be more useful than inscription.

I went skinning & LW. Its not as strong as some other professions but besides my druid main, my next alts are a DH, hunter, shaman and rogue. So at least this way I can make gear and patterns for all. The alts will have herbing and mining and JC, enchanting, inscription etc so at some point I’ll have everything covered.

I run herb alchemy on my main always witch is my druid again this xpan having the extra flask duration can be a big money saver in the long run and can make great gold over time as guilds will be buying flasks n pots for raiding and serious mythic plus runs constantly and if you do these your self it will save you from having to buy them all the time vs say a weapon enchantment you may by one time for months if not alchemy I would recommend 2 farming pros as ppl have said above druids are amazing at farming since you can do it in travel form and later on flight form get a gathering enchantment on your gloves asap buy a few extra to keep on you for when you upgrade your gloves and go wild

If your trying to be efficient then the best path is to make your druid a gatherer and use other alt(s) for crafting. Druids are the best gatherers hands down.
