Im pretty new to WoW and decided to make a new undead character and just play the Vanilla zones from 1-30 then I was going to do time walking so I can stay Vanilla and finish some of the story.
One thing I don’t understand is how am I suppose to use professions because It seems like I out level the crafting stuff way faster than I could possibly use. For example Im an Alchemist and the highest level health potion for Classic Alchemy is like 800 Hp. But I have so much more health than that 800 hp is not even worth it.
So to get better potions I need Northrend Alchemy, which uses Northrend plants. But if I go to Northrend to level up that Alchemy I will quickly out-level the need for Northrend Alchemy which honestly takes a lot of money for a new player. Then I would quickly be on to Cataclysm Alchemy which would take like 5 levels before I out level that and need to go to the next expansions. All the while Im not even wanting to do that. I really just want to stay on the Vanilla islands.
So I guess im not understanding how the professions are suppose to work for someone new to the game. Like the different types of Alchemy are so close together (Outland, Northrend, Cata, Pandaria) that It dosen’t make any sense leveling up the professions as im playing the game because you quickly outgrow them and need to take a huge detour to another island just to get some potions that are useable with my character just to need to go to a whole other expansion in the next 3-5 levels to actually have useable stuff… Leveling up expansion professions just to use them isn’t a cheap or small feat for someone just starting the game.
So am I doing something wrong or overlooking something?

Completely honest, professions are basically useless unless you’re maxed level

This, except frag belt northerend engineering belt enchant at a level 10 can one shot groups of mobs
and some other broken enchants. Alchemy doesn’t seem worth leveling, though
Professions are dead except current content at max level. Even then there’s so much tedium to the DF profession system that you’re better off not even engaging and leaning on others.

Older professions aren’t really relevant, anymore. I doubt Blizzard has done much (if any) tuning ever since the level squishes updated all of the stats. At best, these professions will be used to unlock transmogs (if available to the profession).
Utility-wise, professions won’t become relevant until the current expansion.
Although just so you know, Dragonflight professions are completely different from older expansion professions. Blizzard implemented a kind of talent system so you can specialize in different areas at first and branch out to other areas as time goes on. TWW will be continuing this style of profession system, so it will be best to keep up with it as the expansion progresses.
I sadly agree completely. This will be the first expansion where I not only don’t max all the professions I won’t max a single one.
I already have a job and won’t let wow give me another one.
Yea the level squish… I wasn’t around for it but it definitely seems like the levels are off by a lot. Like the difference between Northrend Alchemy and Draenor Alchemy is like 10 character levels. So I would have to spend a lot of time leveling those 2 expansions professions just to use relevant potions for only like 10 character levels… Then on to the next expansion.
They ruined all old professions with the leveling squish and scaling.
They tried to fix them with like relics for armor crafters but lol. That didn’t work.
Yeah unfortunately they aren’t useful at level any more. I used to make my alts things but they out level too fast to make it worth it. The only thing older expansion professions are good for is transmog if you have any of the crafting ones. Herbalism and Mining give XP so I have new alts dual gather. You can always switch to a crafting profession later.
