Professions, but not for gold

So, gold is easy enough to come by from casual farming and just playing. Plus, I don’t need gold for a monthly token.

What profession would be fun/useful to a casual player (monk). Seems gear is easier to obtain from raids/mythical than trying to push up a profession.

Thoughts?

Not sure what you want… professions are either for self benefit or for making gold, seems like you don’t need either.

Well, I’m thinking self benefit is the primary purpose for a profession. Yes, many players view it as an economic engine.

I’ve played for 16 years and very rarely buy anything of extreme value off the AH. Buying an epic or mount or pet just doesn’t float my boat.
If i spend substantial gold at all it’s for a token.

But i will say my turn feels like it’s missing out on a large part of the game by not having a crafting profession. Many, many of the rep items you unlock are profession patterns.

Hard to beat Engineering from a “personal” standpoint… especially Quality of Life. A portal to every expansion zone is very convenient. Portable mailbox, portable bank, and so on. Not the cheapest profession, but I like it. I refuse to gather, and I don’t play the AH… so I use Engineering for the QoL aspects.
